if #1 manufacture sells 10000 trucks and 10% need service =1000
if #2 manufacture sells 9000 trucks and 10% need service = 900
if #3 manufacture sells 8000 trucks and 10% need service = 800
looks like #1 has a problem, i'll be keeping my problem except that it's got 20k problem free miles
Albran, more like Ford 20,000
Dodge 9,000
GM 8,000
That is more of a true ratio. So yes if you use the 10%, or even if Ford is say 5% it still looks like more or as many trucks are in for warranty repairs as the others. It is kinda of a slanted fact.
As far as the 7.3 goes, everything that is a common failure on them after 10 years is common knowlegde. Many trips to the FTE for answers vs. towing to the dealer for repair. The 6.0 is going to be the same way. Dealership techs are already reporting a serious slow down in work coming through the door, and that is a positive sign. The latest rounds of updates, actually addressed the problems, once Ford decided to go that route, things started getting better. (Update on the turbo, physical tolerances updated to prevent sticking, flash that addresses the injectors life, turning off multiple sensors that conflict with each other trying to read or control the same parameter) Due to this site, their are already people working on these trucks themselves. Doing a little troubleshooting before takingto the dealer, or having a truck out of warranty, and not wanting to get taken for a ride.
As for the question if they are junk or not, not hardly. I just wonder what all the 7.3 guys are going to do when they run out of trucks to buy. I really hope that they do stay away form the 6.0, to keep the prices low, but when 6.4 hits the streets 6.0's will be snapped up faster than a 7.3 ever did.
i dont hear too much stuff on here about 6.0 problems. i know here in western wa alot of people dont like them. even the local ford garage always has one coming in on a tow truck. my dad has had his in there a couple times. most everyone is waiting to see if the 6.4 is any better or not. but there are the people that love them too. the 7.3 is the best motor they ever had in my opinion. out here we use our trucks in the woods for work and play alot, and everywhere in between. not just on the highway.
anyhow just was laying out my thoughts.
I think you must be the only place in the country where trucks get used for that kind of stuff!
