Has anybody removed the rear spring hanger extension brackets to give the rear a little lift? I just installed a lift kit and my rear eand sags. I'm wondering if I can remove the extension brackets and bolt the springs directtly to frame mounts to achieve a little extra lift in the rear.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt that bracket a swivel that allows your springs and axle to move up and down? As the spring flexes, it would get slightly longer or shorter. Bolted at both ends would prevent the spring from flexing.
If your tail end is low, you might be happier with a short block in there or having the springs re-arched.
3KIDDAD, what kind of lift kit did you install? When i installed my lift kit it sagged in the rear two. I just took out the blocks that came with the kit and put in a 3 inch block.
I think the theory is everyone wants to level the ride. Stock, as you know, is nose down. I rather prefer it that way. My 4" lift is only a 4" front. The back has a 5" block, an extra spring, re-arched, and bags. More like a 6/4. You can do whatever you want.
You can get blocks virtually anywhere that sells suspension parts.
I know I'll be flogged mercilessly if I'm wrong (I dont remember a lot about the front shackles on my truck, and your X could, actually, be a little different) but I'm thinking one of those pivots too.
Housedad is right. I crawled under this morning and they are there. I didn't remember seeing them before. So it looks light the shackle brackets are there for a reason and can't be removed. My original thought was that Ford used these brackets on the Excursion to make it lower than the Superduty and therefore might be able to be removed. Thanks all for your responses.
Seems like most lift kits are designed to lift the front higher than the rear... anybody know why?
Because most lift companies sell you a Superduty lift. The Excursion needs a spring in the rear that is 2" taller than the front lift height. For instance, a Donahoe Racing lift will come with a 6" front spring and an 8" rear spring. You will sit level then:
Thanks for that information... that does make sense. Seems like I see many other lifted vehicles with rear sag too. So I need to be looking for 8" lift rear springs to make this thing sit level without blocks?
