I have a lope when idling, I change the oil and still da lope. I've heard mention of the IPR and its o-ring. What is this and would this maybe help with da lope? 97 F-250 4X4 7.3
Several things can cause a lope at idle, so here we go. Lets try the easiest first.
Unlpug the ICP (Injector Control Pressure) sensor and see is that clears it up. Its located on the left (drivers side) head, front inboard, with a three wire connector. If this does it, you need a new ICP sensor.
If that did not work, unplug one VC (Valve Cover) injector wiring connector at a time and start the engine and see if it changes the idle (it should). If you unplug one and it does not change the idle, you have either bad wiring harness connections and/or pins, a bad VC gasket, bad UVC (Under Valve Cover) wiring harness, or bad injector. You will need to pull that VC and check everything under it out by ohming out the wiring and inspecting the connectors and pins.
The IPR (Injector Pressure Regulator) is located in the back of the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) reservoir. You will need to siphon the oil out of the reservoir then remove the IPR and remove and replace the o-rings. The o-rings going bad on an IPR usually cause the engine not to start after the oil is warm, because the warm (thinner) oil will leak by the IPR o-rings.
You might try installing a high pressure oil crossover. This equalizes the high pressure oil in both heads. Many have reported this smoothing out their idle.
PLOWHAND, i unplugged the ICP and it idled much better, i will do it again when its cold, it lopes real bad at start up first thing in the morning. So i will let you know for sure in the morning. Also, do i have to get the ICP from the dealer or is there a good place to go that you know of for PSD parts. Thanks Rob.
Check out ebay for good prices on an ICP or CPS. If you have to have it now, go to a local International dealer, they will have better pricing than Ford, but not as good as ebay.
