With the engine running at idle the PCV should not be pulled closed by the vacuum, ever. At idle the should pass air you should be able to put your finger over the open end of the valve and the vacuum should hold it there. Are you sure the guy is giving you the right PCV?
I don't think so. At idle you have the highest vaccum signal and the lowest amount of blowby gasses. The PCV valve should be as closed as it will get under this condition. However, it could be that it should never close completely.
Off idle and cruise have lower vacuum signal and higer blow by so that's when the valve should open and allow more of the crankcase gasses to pass.
The correct molded PCV hoses are incredibly stiff.
I can't imagine a situation where the engine vacuum should collapse it.
I'm guessing its the wrong hose.
I bought my PCV hose from mansfield mustang. It was a little pricely, but it's correct size, shape, etc. Check out their web site (http://mansfieldmustang.com/04-41.jpg) to see if you can use the same one.

Actually they are designed to close when the engine is decelerating (slowing the car/truck down and drawing the highest vacuum the engine ever will) so as to not lean out the engine too much. At idle there should be some air flow, but not max air flow.
I got the first 3 months ago from auto zone when I first purchased the truck. The second one I got just a couple of days ago from Advance Auto. Both appear the same. Anyone have the correct PCV part # for 1967 352 2bl, 3 on the tree, So I can try to cross it/verify?
More than enough vacuum to hold the end of the hose to your hand.
