Hey I was wondering if any of you have straight piped your 7.3L PSD Excursion and whether or not it gets loud in the cab? I have heard not to do this due to cab noise, but was wondering if anyone has actually done it and what their results were. Thanks.
I don't have any experience yet with the Excursion (haven't bought one yet)
BUT I do have a straight pipe on my MB. It is less than half your displacement so it may be like apples and oranges. It is a little louder for me but nowhere near unbearable. I have a weird theory about the turbo "chopping up" the exhaust waves.
Thanks guys, I ended up just doing it. I used to have a 96 crew cab stroker that I straight piped and I honestly think the Excursion is quieter in cab. Don't really know why with an open cab over the whole exhaust, but I'm not complaining! Sounds sweet!
We're talkin' diesels here..... I really don't think you want to straight pipe your gasser unless you like headaches and wincing stares from innocent bystanders.
My V-10 is straightpiped, and my friends all agree that it sounds sweet...stock size on the pipe just omitted the muffler. I does get a little loud in the cab at freeway speeds, but that's what the subwoofers for right??
I thought the V-10 exhaust was special in a way to where you couldn't do that or put duals on it?
Done it..... been that way over a year with no problems...maybe low tone hearing loss?? but nothing else.. tough probably to put true duals on it (legality reasons) but tearing out a muffler and putting pipe in it's place cost $35 at the local muffler shop.
Did the 02 Ex, LOVE it, noticable difference towing, yep its a bit louder with the windows down, a bit louder in the cab, but after a week, you dont notice it. GO FOR it, it is the best sound!!
