I see. Well, you can get all the parts yourself HERE for $110.
5 hours is probably the book time, but if takes a professional mechanic that long real time I'd suggest he needs to choose a different career.
Unless you are considering doing it yourself, which is difficult but very doable, it's not all that far out of line....but more than I would want t pay to fix a simple exhaust leak.
What all is involved with replacing the up-pipes? I did take a look under there when my trans was out (while at BTS) and it looks like there would be pretty easy access with the trans dropped. However, that's not feasable for a lot of people, me included.
Pulling the turbo is not a problem. But, after that it looks like there's not a lot of room to work.
Its not bad with the turbo out and the down pipe out... Maybe a afternoon for a first timer... Get all the parts not just the up pipes... DI has some nice SS one piece pipes... no dounuts to go out...
Im doing manifolds and up-pipes on our 95 powerstroke. I'm dropping the ZF5 at the same time to replace the broken DMF and replace the clutch so it shouldn't be TOO hard to do.. Transmission out of the way would make it ideal. Why, do your's leak?
Yeah, there's a small leak that is no doubt getting bigger. The up-pipes also had some pretty good wobble to them when I had the turbo out a few weeks ago. I'm sure some replacement donuts would fix it, but I don't know that the clamps will be reuseable. They're pretty rusted.

I thought there was some kind of crush gasket at the bottom. Are those 2 bolts at the lower union easily replacable? That's my only leak, but it's noticable in the cold mornings when I get a little smoke from under the truck.

You can try sprayin them down with some rust breaker. They will probably just break off. If they do not break off, they could just get stuck in the manifold, 2 of mine were rusted into the manifold, i had to take a air hammer to get them out.
