high beam problem

Whenever I go to turn the highbeams on they dont go on. Is there a switch that needs to be replaced? All the other lights work.

I'd check the fuses first... if that's not the problem i'd suspect the multifunction switch.

What year do you have?

Most likely it is the hi/low switch on the steering column. It is a combo turn signal and hi/low that will need replaced. Just replaced one on a 96 explorer doing the same thing.

That switch is certainly a good possibility, but having changed one in a '97 Ranger a few weeks ago, I'd say it's a heck of a lot easier and cheaper to check the fuse first...

If you take a quick look at a wiring diagram you will see that the only difference between high beams & flash to pass is in the dimmer/multifunction switch.

So if the high beams dont work, but the flash to pass does work the dimmer/multifunction switch is shot.

Simple as that.

Iam not sure about a 97 but my 2003 has a 10 amp fuse that is for the high beams if it is blown or not there then you don't have high beams.
