Exclamation Various Stuff

Just purchased and 2004 Ranger XLT Step Side Super Cab w/49611 miles. Nice looking truck, though I don't trust the dealer.

The drive shaft klunks @ the trainie and differential.

The Bed (I think) klunks near or @ the axle when I step on the StepSide.

Front something sounds like CV joints poping at extreme angles and cold.

Can't figure out what kind of MP3 specs the stereo likes.

Anybody?

Ya got ta get under there and shake the drive line with wheels blocked and out of gear to check u joint and pinion nut for being loose. Pry up on the bed and cab mounts and see if one is bad. Jack up the front end and shake and wiggle stuff around and see if ya got a bad CV. I can't see it from here. Check the fluid levels in the deff and tranfer etc while ya are under there. Do a compleat inspection and see what ya really bought. Get in there and get dirty or take it to a shop.

Pretty cold here also. But I am trying to get the water thawed so we can all take showers as we have a two hundred mile round trip to town tomorrow. Most of it on snow rutted slick logging roads. If ya can't do it in the wet and cold around here than It won't get done as we only have a couple of months of nice weather in July and August. But that makes it worth while I guess.

I don't think the sound systems worked with mp3 until 05 or 06.

My driveshaft sometimes clunks (has since new) and I just think the slipjoint has a little too much clearance, so I don't worry about it.

The bed noise could be as simple as a loose bolt attaching the bed to the frame.

For driveshaft klunk, consider the TSB.....the slip yoke spline may need to be greased. There also a long thread in this forum.
