Hey Guys,
I have a 1997 F150 4x4 Super cab . Started to klunk when I take off from a dead stop in 2wd. I thought it was just a universal joint on the rear drive shaft, but all are fine??
Any suggestions??
For that generation of 4X4, where is the splined slip joint for the rear driveline? In and out of the back of the transfer case, or is it in the rear driveshaft? The splines may need cleaning and re-greasing.
As the rear axle goes up/down, including applying torque at takeoff, and coming to a stop, somewhere there has to be a slip joint to make up the difference in driveshaft length. For a 1997 2WD, it is in/out of the back of the transmission, except on the S/C L/B like I have, where it is at the beginning of the 2nd driveshaft, at the center support bearing. Don't know where it is for your 4WD. That is what I would look at first for that exact symptom.
