so from what yall are saying there's a speed thing not a long drive thats the issue with temp, so if you drive around town at top speeds of 45 mph the temp doesnt get high enough to worry about the temp? (im not saying 0 - 45 in 1.5 sec)

IMHO its a speed and how hard your engine is working thing. Driving several minutes at reasonable in town speeds should be sufficient cool down for a lightly loaded stock diesel truck.
I appreciate all the individuals who post on here about their trucks, many are fanatical about the operation, maintenance and up keep of their diesels to the point of it being a hobby or obsession. That said, there are thoasands of these trucks running up and down the road everyday that are not having any problems and their operators are not sending in oil samples, worried about turbo cooldown, concerned if they should put in 13.5 quarts of oil or 15, they just drive them and get along just fine.

Amen.

Hundreds of thousands. Literally.

I think that access to the information available here at FTE is guilty of making us all a little over-compulsive and **** about the way we carry out maintenance on these trucks. I'm just as guilty as the next person....but we should probably all take a step back once and a while and examine the statement you just made.

The station I go to also serves big rigs, I rarely see them shut down while fueling.

What Brand Or Type Of Gauges Do You Guys Recommend? And Also, Do You Need To Let The Turbo Cool Just After Towing Or Should This Be Done During Regular Driving As Well?

Ya know I have to say that I dont excessively worry since being on the site. I hang around, help or give input where I can. If anything it has given me a better appreciation for the beast that is the Super-Duty.

The people on FTE are grea and have never done me wrong. I love the advice and debates, and would never go anywhere else for it.

As for the tow/ regular driving question, I ask myself, "Did the trubo get worked up?" If I think it did I would give it some time. Before my Edge anyway.

I think you guys are dead on. When I'm pulling the 5er over passes and such here in Colorado, she gets some cool down time. Most of the regular city or easy highway driving doesn't warrant it. Jeeze, I don't need some tree hugger spitting on or throwing animal parts on her for wasting fuel!! (different thread)
