Unhappy cool down timer

without a cool down timer, what do you do if running 4hrs and need gas?
(do you stop and keep truck running for 10 minutes or so, then turn off and get gas?)
its the first hwy trip about a 10.5 hr run

I know this is bad, but I let it run while fueling. I also have turbo timer so I dont really bother with time limits; measure off of EGTs. I personally think that diesel is a lot safer at the pump than regular ol' gas so that's why. I am yet to have anyone smug at me for leaving it running.

The last mile or two of wherever I am going (including home) I roll off the throttle and let the EGT’s come down on their own, then when I stop I wait till they come down to idle temp, and turn it off, NEVER has it been more then a minute or two, the trick is cool it off on the road coming up to the point of stopping.

When pulling I always let it come down on the highway, again only a mile or less, that way it is no worry to stop the truck when fueling.

The gauge never lies. IMO no need for cool down timer if you watch EGT...just my opinion

No, please show me the diesel pumps that you go to with your trucks that you don't have several minutes of cool down time to even get to? Or are you telling me you don't get off the pedal on the off ramp, blaze into the service station at 60 mph, lock up the binders and slide to a stop right in front of the pump?

I'll have to agree, guages would be the way to go. However, origcharger hit the nail on the head with his post. You will no doubt cool down sufficently with slowing down for the ramp, driving thru a few stop lights or stop signs to get to the fueling station. Just my H.O.

I agree with the majority here, save your money and invest in gauges or a monitor. I never shut my truck off while fueling.

Same Here, After A Long Haul I Leave It Running When I Refuel, And It Would Give You Much Better Piece Of Mind With A Nice Set Of Gauges, The Factory Gauges Are Nothing More Than Idiot Lights With Needles

Don't tell anyone at work that this fireman is telling you this....Diesel fuel is not the problem with running while fueling. The flash point is so high you really shouldn't see any probs running while fueling. Of course a fairly low stupidity level helps too!! Don't use your blow torch for light if you can't see .

Hey, do you have a problem with my approach method?

Maybe a time or two
