Question Block Heater

I had to have my truck repaired after the front bumper was damaged. When I got it back I wanted to hook up the block heater. There was no cord. I was told the heater was there but you had to pay $200.00 for the cord to hook it up, that it didn't come with the truck. I had never tried to use it before. Have any of you ran into this problem ? This is on a 2005 SD I got awhile back.

The same thing is being discussed in part of this thread:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...no-vs-syn.html

The cord is like $50 bucks and MAYBE 20 minutes to install. $200 is absolutely outrageous. You can buy the cord at an international dealer or find them on ebay and install it yourself. It virtually just plugs in and you route the harness--EASY.

Also most dealers sell for $75 and you get the OEM setup.

I went to the dealer here and the cord is $85, another $66 or so for install. I have the appointment set for friday which I'll be cancelling. I crawled under to check it out and even my massive hands can fit up there to plug it in with room to spare. I did however notice the tranny lines into the cooler are leaking, they can do warranty work with that, lol.

Well, I'm just about done installing that stupid cord. I spent WAY too much time looking for the the holes in the front bumper that the clips are supposed to go in, I still don't know where they are. Since it's 11 degrees out and I'm laying on the pavement on my back I gave up and just started running the cord back. Got it over the frame rail along the outter edge then back in under the wheel well spalsh down by that external filter thing. Now I'm in taking a break to unthaw and dig out the wire fish. It's tough trying to push it through where the engine mount is. I managed to get it rhoug honce but it was all twisted among otherthings and a few inches too short to plug in the element. Pulled it back and and was greeted with a shower of dirt and road salt. This isn't at all hard to do but it sure sucks in below freezing weather with no lift and on a dirty truck.

The ford part has the rigid plastic section that goes along the frame rail. I don't think you can start at the element first then work forward without running into a problem trying to get that over the fram and under the splash shield. I'm still looking for a way to clip the cord in at the bumper though. I can see a hole that would work but I'd need to rip the bumper off to reach it, lol. The holes that are mentioned in the tech folder are simply not there on mine.

OK, fine. you set that piece and go either way. Going to the engine don't push all the pins in until you plug the plug into the engine block. I used the same OEM part as you are. Not fun . . .

I didn't push anything in until it was all where I wanted it, lol. The only pins I used were the ones on the solid tube along the outer frame. I could only see one hole in the front and no way to reach it. Underneath before it passed through the mount they didn't line up so I just used some cable ties there. When it was all done I checked the plug end and got 15 ohms so it looks like it's all set to go. Tomorrow I'll find out if it's gonna pop the breaker when I plug it in.
