While changing my oil today I noticed that a plastic seal had fallen out of the backside of my hubs on both sides. It was just hanging there on the stub on both sides????? I am assuming that was a seal???? Now what? Looks like everything has to come off from the outside in. What else should I change while I am in there? How hard of a task is this?

If you haven't found anything try this link it is really good on how to get your hub assembly off. Then I think you knock the seal out from back out toward you. Pull out your shaft it will probaly come with the seal, knock the seal off. Set the new seal onto the shaft I think I used a piece of pvc. Then jam it back in just make sure you line up your spines. About 80-100 hit in chips to do both sides. Its been awhile since I did this so if anyone see anything out of wack please speak up. Hope this helps.
Very informative link, thanks. Needle bearings look good. However, the cover behind them is in place but a seal has falen out behind it onto the outer shaft. Are those seals available by themselves or as a kit? How do you get the cover out that's around the outer shaft?
03,sd,ec,5.4,4x4,red,western 7.5 pro plow. was goofin off at the advanced auto pars web site found that they have rebuild kits for ford f250 hubs cheap to if i rember thers pictures of the parts too .
I really can't say if those deals are offered by themselves or not. It may just be a piece broke off and hanging there. I just changed the whole deal and I can't find the part number because I cannot remember where I put the old box. As far as getting it out, if I was going to reuse it I would get a piece of brass and gently tap it out. If I was going to trash it then I would let the big dog eat. Just go from the inside out.
Those seals all the way behind the ujoint are just dust seals. The axle has to come out to replace. Unless you mean the large seal on the outboard side of the ujoint.
No, not talking about the seals on the outside of the axle tube inside of the u-joint. Talking about the plastic ring that is laying on the outside of the u-joint. It fell outta the backside of the hub assembly.
I have now carried big seal all over town and no one can cross the part #. Ford sent me home to retrieve the tag # off the diff. I wouldn't mind making the return trip so bad if I had faith in them finding what I need when I go back.
