Are you guys talkin bout the clock spring if removed incorrectly could cause the air bag to blow?
i just bought a 94 F150 is this a common problem for this year?
Jim
To clarify, it's during the removal of the airbag to be able to remove the steering wheel to get to the clockspring that there is the risk of it going off.
I have pretty good mechanical skills and really good medical coverage, so I might be willing to take a few more risks than average.
I replaced the clock spring in my 94 last year. My first problem was a lack of cruise control. I drove around without it for almost a year. When the air bag light started flashing I decided to go ahead and change the clock spring. I did a search for the step-by-step process on this board and it was a pretty easy job.
I think the air bag light should come on then go off after start-up. Mine always has..., just thought it was part of the process for self-test of the system.
The three key things I've always heard as indicators of a clock spring problem have been: cruise control, air bag light flashing and the horn inop.
After the recall harness was installed on my 1995 F250, the speed control still is inoperable. Thinking it was related to the recall, I asked the Ford dealer to diagnose. They say it requires a clock spring assembly. Near as I can tell, a clock spring is an air bag-related piece. Being a 8600 GVW truck, it doesn't have an air bag. The horn works. Does my truck have a clock spring? Thanks in advance.
