Front Damper

I'm putting my engine back together and am to the point of installing the front damper onto the crank. The engine is a 360 into which I put a 390 crank. That said, the front damper slides on really easily. I thought it would take a bit of "forcing" to get it on the crankshaft, but it just slides right on.

Anthing to worry about? Or should I count myself lucky?

It slides on. but I wouldn't call it nice and tight. That said, there is also not a lot of wiggle. I think once I put the bolt on and tighten it down I should stay in place.

Are you using the balancer key with it?

There's a washer (B8A-6378-A) between the bolt (55721-S) and the damper. The damper (D2TZ-6316-A) is the same for 360/390, but is different for 352's.

The spacer (B8AZ-6359-A) is the same for 352/360/390's, as is the keyway #358985-S

The space goes between the damper and the front cover, the front seal rides on the portion inside the front cover.

The spacer resembles a necked up cartridge.

I'm using the spacer (of course), the key, and the washer with the bolt.

The spacer has a separate key, and the dampner has another key.

Yes, thanks. How far do I press the spacer in?

The spacer should bottom out on front of the oil slinger. The oil slinger is installed after the crank timing sprocket, then the spacer, then the damper, then washer, then bolt. I lube the snout of the crank and inside the spacer to prevent rusting. Oil slinger is a cup shaped spacer...concave side should face out.

The Damper should be a press fit. If it slides on by hand, that's not good. The Damper bolt is used to press the damper in place.

Definitely not a press fit. I'm not sure what could have happened between the original 360 crank and the replacement 390 crank that the machine shop installed for me.

Should I start looking for another damper?

Yea, or if you can, mic the crank snout and compare it with another. If you don't have two cranks, let me know and I'll mic the three or four I have for comparison.
