i have a 96' f150 with a 5speed and a np208 right now, i want a little more gear so i thought i might get a np203/np205 doubler, i was wondering if it was worth buying the doubling kit or just mount the divorced 205 behind the 208
if you dont need low low range then no! thats for those who want to go very slow without wearing a clucth or overheating an auto!
now if you wanna have it for the cool factor and for some extra gearing options and you dont mind the work and spending the cash go for it! i'm not gonna tell you to spend money but i think just about anyone who goes offroad could benefit. heck i'd love to do it in my powerstroke b/c i could get it way way low and backed with the 7.3L I could just about pull the foundation out from under a building! it'd also help with backing trailers, i could get off the clutch. and i would be lengthening my drivetrain to have a shorter rear shaft and longer front shaft!
its not 13" of lift anymore, it will be somewhere around 25-30" on tractor tires, with rockwells, so 6.72 gear ratio, just for the mud
i would like low range, but isn't it the same thing if i locked the 208 into low then locked the divorced 205 into low as well. which would be lower the 203/205 doubler or the 208 and the divorced 205
I don't know if or how you could set up a divorced 205, but any way
A 208 and 205 both in low range would be about 4.6:1
A 203/205 double would be alittle under 4:1
There is a new kit out that you can get 3:1 low range with a 205 to....
thanks MBBford for the calculations, i really dont want to spend 1000 dollars just to make the double, not even the t-cases
ill just make a mount for the 205 behind the 208 and use the stock jack-shaft between them, which would help with my driveline angles, it just sucks i have another tcase just sitten there, its kinda a rig but is better than spending a grand
I really wont to see this 25+ lift and see how okied up it is.I'm 6"1 and a 18in lifted p-stroke puts the running bords at the center of my chest.he must have a sky crane in his driveway to get in it.
