power mirrors

I have an 01 F150 SC 4x4 with power mirrors. They will work going up and out on both sides, but they will not go in and down on both sides, what gives?

I believe there are nylon gears in there that are stripped. I have had mine replaced while the truck was under warranty... what I have found with these morrors is that you have to be real careful about moving them manually for that does not seem to help their situation.. looks like you have to tear into it and see what you have. good luck

how do you get inside the mirrors to check the nylon gears? come on guys, some feedback on to help my situation would be nice!!!

My personal experiences so far has been the switches go bad. Some work partially, some dont work at all. I have replaced the switch in three different trucks so far. The first one drove me batty 'till I figured out the wiring.

go into it from the mirrow side of the mirror between the glass and the housing and pry the tabs to remove the painted cover and this will expose the backside of the mirrow.. sorry, never tore it apart more than that so that is all I can help

Take out the switch on the door, open it up and clean the contacts. This worked for me and they are still working in my '97 F150.

Thanks, that's what worked on my '03, had to put on my magnifier visor so I could tell when the contacts were shiny clean. Best part is no door panel to remove.
