I was wondering if you put 35's on a truck and dont fix the speedo will that cause the odometer to read more miles then what are actaully on the motor? I know on Mustangs if you put gears in the car and dont fix it you get what they call ghost miles. The odometer will read more miles then what there really is. Will that happen with larger tires?
My experience with 35's is the odometer reads about 10% fewer miles than the actual miles traveled and the speedometer reads 10% faster than the actual speed.
Ya i have been going 55 by speedo guessing it was close to 65. The fast you go does it get off more? I was doin 60-65 by my speedo on a 70mph highway and was passing everyone which was weird.
yea the faster you go the more it will be off. you can go to ww.4lo.com and they have a calculator that will say what your new speed is you just have to put in old tire size new tire size and speedometer reading
what year is truck?? if you have electronic speedo you can buy one of those inline calibration deals and adjust it til it's right....cheaper than new ring and pinion and will keep everything working like it is supposed to.
i calibrated my 88 the cheaters way. seeing as my crown vic has a calibrated speedo, i put my nephew in the crown vic behind me and took it up to 55. he told me we were doing 62. i changed the speedo cable gear by 2 teeth, and took it back out. now it is 55 in the car, and 55 in the truck.
if you have abs and don't recalibrate the speedo it's not going to work properly. i guess the cruise would still work but it might have to work harder to hold it's speed.
The 88 has a gear driven cable for the speedo from the transmission or transfer case. Adjustments can be made by changing the gear on the end of the cable very easily by pulling the cable out (one bolt holds the clamp) and then popping off the C clip on the gear. Most good dealers will have a tray of differing gears. Take the old one with you to get the right style. The length of the tip does not matter. Colors will vary.
