I have a 96.............and it seems like the turbo lags at times, ford put in something at some point but I don't remember what it was.......and it still does it It seems the turbo is slow at times and at other times it goes like hell. Seems like I saw somewhere that is a fix or something for this..........the stock turbo uses air or something it function and there is a add on spring or something that will help.............anyone know anything about this.
I would check your EBPV to make sure that its not closing on you part of the time. The best way to check that is to unhook the wires for the EBPV. You can find these wires under the turbo compressor housing.
The best way to reduce turbo lag is go to a 1.0 or smaller housing, It makes the turbo spool up quicker. Warning if stage 2 injectors are in your future hang on to the stock housing.

One simple fix that is often looked over is loose clamps on your turbo down pipe fittings. I have found several trucks with loose clamps tightened and reduced turbo lag.
Ok Boys, here we go...............after 4 years and one trip to Ford in which they charged me to fix the tubo lag.......and didn't.........I did check that clamp behind the turbo..........it was very loose. I tightened it and wow what a difference...........I can't tell you how many times I've been to a dealership and after checking what they did, find loose nut and bolts..........anyway thanks to all that contributed............I also just put in one of those super glow plug relays...........after my truck had been sitting out in sub zero weather for 4 days it started right up.......what a relief.
