update, the truck is in the dealership, they informed me that the head gaskets are at fault, possibly warped heads, and if they cannot find replacements a new motor is the solution.what type of motor would they put in? t
I previously posted this report under the same title[oops.......]this will give you more details.
the motor is a 6 liter with 64k miles which means its still covered under factory 100 000 mile.If they cannot find heads for it,would they be able to find a new 6.0 liter motor
That's weird. How bad are the heads? Heads can be machined flat again, as long as they are not warped too bad, or cracked. They will have to put that engine back in, as far as I know, because its a warranty issue. I think that the guy may be blowing amoke up your a**. Google remanufactured 6.0's and I bet you will find someone that has them, or the heads.
They are telling you this because of the updates to the 2006.5 head; which is the only cylinder head available now; however there are conversion parts available to install these heads on your engine...they are trying to rip you a new one.
Even though the tech manual says it cant be done, 2006PSD is correct- they can be resurfaced at a machine shop without any problems. We do this on lots of engines to prolong gasket life even with head studs; as long as no more than .009 material is removed, it will be fine.
i spoke with the ford dealership today and they informed me that it wasn"t the head gasket or the heads but a cracked egr housing was the problem all fixed for now.keep my fingers crossed
ford will not allow us to machine the heads. if there is .003 in difference in readings, then they are scraped. there are plenty of these new heads. dont see why there is a issue within getting them.
CUMMINS CUMMINS CUMMINS that is the way i would go if you have to pull out of pocket. If warranty 6.0's are very available. but i agree with every post those heads can go to a machine shop and can be repaired
well I just picked it up from the dealer and upon warming it up in the parking lot i noticed a whining, tech came to see and said he could hear it but wasn"t sure what it was. When i drove it home i noticed black smoke even at hwy speed[yes it was at normal operating temp].The whining wasn"t real bad but definitely noticable, and the smoke wasn"t real bad[not like egr cooler]but there was smoke. It goes back in again tomorrow so they can investigate the whining.Any ideas.
P.s i hope this thing dies while still under warranty.die, die, die
