Keyless entry door pad

How is it powered? Does it have a battery inside the pad, or does it pull power from the main harness?

I usually lock my keys in my truck when I'm playing at the shop and sorts. Usually, I hit the first number and the pad lights up. Last night, I hit the first number and the pad just flashed on each entry. Weak battery maybe?

Ford uses 2 different keypads, hardwired and wireless. I believe all of the MY '04 trucks have the wireless w/battery, but the easiest way to tell is the wired ones are flush mount and the wireless stick-out from the door about 1/2". I'm guessing that since yours is blinking when you push a key, that it's wireless and in need of new batteries. If you look on the right side of the housing there's a small notch with a small black tab in the center of the slot. Use the biggest flat head screwdriver that will fit in the slot between the top of the little tab and the plastic housing and then gently pry it up. It doesn't come up easy and you might want to put some tape on the door to keep from scratching the paint if the screwdriver slips. When you're prying up make sure you're between the top of that tab and the housing or you'll end up prying the taped bottom half off of the door. Once you have the top plastic piece coming off, the rubber numbers may or may not come with it. If they do, sweet, the batteries are underneath it. If not, once you have the plastic part up, gently pry the rubber numbers off. Take the batteries to Radio Shack, a pharmacy, or wherever they sell those type of batteries and you're done.

Does anyone know if you can add the keyless entry to a truck that does not have it? My wifes Taurus has it and I love it. I'd love to add it to my baby.

You can add the keypad if you already have keyless entry. Do a search on ebay to get a good price. I think you can normally find it on there for around $60-$70. The dealers generally want $120 or so. I'm not sure what Ed at y2k ford charges. It is really simple.

If you don't have keyless entry you would have to add that first, and I'm not sure how difficult that is.

only problem now the keyless entry keypad from Ford is obsolete. Can't buy them from Ford anymore. There are a few dealers that still show stock so you can still get one if you really want it. they had a list price of $183.00
