I've been reading up on the automatic to manuel hub switch. Recently I switched my autos to manuels and since have put about 1000 mi on the pickup (1996 F250). What I later found out is that I needed a conversion kit. Apparently the trucks produced after 1995 need this conversion kit. An easy way to tell otherwise is if the cap for the lockout has three screws holding it in. Well mine did, but I paid no attention to anyone telling me I need a conversion kit. However, after searching, I find that Warn as well as other people say you need the conversion kit, otherwise you run the risk of your wheel falling off. So, should I still be worried. I thought the snap rings held everything in. Anyway just curious because I've put about 1000 mi on the truck since the switch and the lockouts work just fine. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
All I can say is the snap ring dosent hold everything in place. The kit is there for reason . Get it and install/ or parts from older truck its cheaper. Cheaper than being towed if something happens. I switched out several but I have parts from previous trucks that use. I have everything to switch my 94 out now even though auto hubs are only 8 months old. Good luck
I have 2 screw on bushings, a locker bushing with a keyway, and then my snap ring holds my center spindle into the lockout. and then another ring holds the lockout into the hub.
Ok thanks, all I have is the snap ring holding my center spindle, and the other ring holding the entire lockout into the hub. Looks like I need to get the conversion kit.
