my terminals are trashed

well its time to replace the batteries and the terminals are trashed also. whats the best route to replacing all the wires and the battery terminals? do i need to go to ford or can i go to autozone and throw a kit together myself. if i go to autozone how do i tie the two batteries together cause i dont think they make the kind of wires im looking for. or am i going to have to go to ford for the whole set up? thanks

I know the Napa here will make custom cables out of what ever guage wires you want and they crimp them right there. All you need to do is yank out the old ones so you can match them all.

is 770 cca good enough battery or should i get something around 850 and higher, i have a service engine light for low voltage on both gp banks, and my truck barely cranks cause baatteries are toast. could this ses light be related to weak batteries? the batteries in the truck right now are 770 cca. thanks

Yeah, have yours load tested. I got mine from Wally. $63 a peice. Make sure to get the latest 850 CCA ones. Of course your problem/code could be cable related. You are fixing that though.

i got them load tested a week ago and they both tested good. guess ill do it again when i get the new cables. im hoping that this will fix the service engine light for low voltage on both gp banks but i doubt it and will probable have to tear open the valve covers and replace a few gp to fix it. california psd's are lame, i never need to use the gp unles in the mountains or desert and if one doesnt work it sets off a code until it gets fixed. what a lame set up for a truck that probable could go without glow plugs. wish i had an out of state truck so if i did have a bad glow plug it wouldnt atleast set off the ses light. ill probable end up installing new cables and cleaning the terminal and see if that fixes it and if not new batteries for me.

Can one living in CA expect immediate imprisonment and eventual decapitation if they were to convert the CA GP system to a standard GP? But then you would have to have the PCM reflashed and ...... oh well, forget it..........

Does the pcm sense the GP voltage above or below the GP relay? Could just be the relay on that part of the equation.

if the relay didnt work the ses light wouldnt come on cuase the other side of the relay wouldnt have power to test the gp's. and it has a new relay in it anyways. light came on after i put new relay in, i most likely have a gp out on both sides.

I am not sure you are not oversimplifying the operation of the Cal model relay which is a solid state unit. I bet that unit is pricey too.

ummm what? it uses the same relay it just uses a shunt and some metal bracket that splits the other side of the terminal into two posts(left and right) each side has a test wire for each bank. doesnt cost anymore then a normal one you just cant use the gp 109 everyone else uses cause the shunt doesnt work for it. no such thing as a cal unit.

Do you have the Ca relay or the regular unit on the VC area?

theres two differnt units for ca. a gp module and a normal gp relay that uses a bracket and shunt to split the other side of the terminal into two posts(left and right) you all have the saem relay as me except i have to use a shunt and bracket to split left and right sides up so they can be tested by the pcm.
