lift vs towing

How high can i lift and still be able to use a 5th wheel. I am not looking for 6" at all but I am very interested to know if I can do a 3" lift and still use a 5th wheel?

yea you should be able to get away with 3" but i'd be nervous. its best to have the rig as level as possible and i think 3 inches might do it some good. i would not however, go any more than that!

One thing to think about is flipping th axels on the trailer if it has not allready been done. Spring over axel instead of spring under.

I pull a pretty big trailer (36' three axle ), let me tell you it gets pretty crazy when the winds pick up. I have left the spring under set-up, because, i fear the worst when I tow. Raising it would make me very uneasy with a decent size trailer that has a lift kit. I see plenty of them on the road, but they can't be as safe as a lower one. 3" lift is not that much, I see plenty of SD's on the road still pulling 5th wheels with that much lift. Measure the heigth of your trailer, and then measure the heigth of the bed, plus three inches, and consider the tire diameter. This should give you an idea of whether or not the trailer will fit. Allow room for truck, and trailer misalignment when the truck goes up a steep drive or something, and you should be o.k.
