ok what would be the best oil for the 6.0
i just had mine changed at the stealer 85 bucks and i asked the service rep about rotella T 15-40 and said some of the guys are having probems with the rotellaT something to due with certain chemecal compounds within the oil are just not up to par for the 6.0
so i guess the ford stealers just want you to use motocraft syn.
As long as the oil is rated CI-4+ or the newest rating of CJ you will be OK. I use 14 qts of Rotella 5W-40 synthetic year round and it works great. In cold weather climates you could run 10W-30 in the winter. In warmer weather you could go with 15W-40 in the summer if you don't want to pay the premium for synthetic oil. Make sure you don't overfill the oil, most of us use 13.5 to 14 qts which puts the level halfway up the plastic piece on the dipstick. Overfilling may cause rough running problems.
I use the Cheveron Delo 15w-40 in my last PSD and now my new one. Always seemed to be good oil. Have not see any comments on it though. My thought is " clean oil is good oil''.
85.00 dollars is not that bad.dealers want 130.00+tax in my area.cost me about 60.00 diy .use what ever oil you like and is approved for diesels cI-4+ you will get a lot of great information here on oil. to many choices.
hmm i would play it safe and go with what fords says on the fill specs which is 15Q that will bring it right to the top of the stick right where you want it. i always go with the specs of the maf they know best.
I used Mobil Delvac for all of my oil changes except my last, which I used Rotella. All were 15W-40, but the Rotella was the new CJ-4 spec. I found CJ-4 Mobil Delvac at Sam's Club in a case of 4 (I think) and bought it for my next oil change.
My first change was free and I figured I'd pay for the second just to see what they would charge. Hefty bill of $122 total. They list having used 15 quarts oil both times. I asked if they could use a lighter oil being winter but they said they only put 15w40 in the diesels summer and winter. Should be warm enough come next oil change where I can crawl under and do it myself. Once I hit 10k I'm planning on 5w40 full syn year round.

This is why, of course this info is in the tech folder at the top of the forum.
Note: Our experience has found that 13.5 quarts is all that is necessary to replace. Approximate 1.5 quarts of oil stay in the high pressure reservoir, high pressure pump and high pressure rails. Too much oil in the crancase can cause oil consumption and erratic idle performance.
Read the following service message from Ford:
Oil Level Check Tip:
When checking the oil level on the 6.0, the vehicle must be on a level surface and the dipstick must be fully seated into the tube to ensure an accuarte reading. Do not add oil if the level is above the "MIN" line on the dipstick. Broadcast Message 1512, 1574.
As for the original question, you cannot go wrong with motorcraft, chevron, mobil, exxon, 76, conoco, phillips 66, kendal, or texaco. Some unsubstanciated rumors have surfaced that Valvoline premuim blue and dino rotella t have been causing injector stiction. Personally I have run rotella t dino and syn, never had any issues, I am currently running Chevron Delo dino, due to the fact that it is still CI-4+ and Not CJ (which I believe is formulated for ulsd and from what I read is not intended for lsd which right now is primarily what is available here) We also use Chevron products in all our company equipment so the switch will probably be permanent due to the cost I can get delo for.

I should've mentioned that I have been filling up with ULSD which is currently cheaper than the other stations around me that still have LSD.

Is the oil consumtion and idle problems fixed if you get the oil level down if it was the oil level that created the problem?

I can't believe that beachbumcook has missed out on this opportunity to spread the Oil News . . . He has to come along sooner or later and we'll all get the latest insight. .
