The '95 E-250 Cargo I bought used two years ago still had a Motorcraft battery in it until a week ago (and I am quite sure the seller did not spring for the extra $ a Motorcraft would cost, so I guess it is OE).
The '97 Crown Vic I bought used in '98 (I'm 2nd owner for sure, car had warranty on it) still has the original battery in it and it cranks on the coldest days. Just went over 160,000 mi. a while ago.
I wondered who made them then because I was quite impressed that they did last so long.
Buy a different brand of battery. In the late 70's I had 7 Diehards diehard in 3 years in a new Oldsmobile. Each left me stranded. More than once Sears wanted to sell me an alternator. I never changed the alternator and it lasted over 200000 miles of driving. However I did go to a different brand of battery and it lasted 6 years on just 1 with no replacement. So switch to a new brand of batteries. Jim
Be ready to open your wallet deep, they aren't cheap.
Optima was a good battery up until about 5 years ago. Their quality has really taken a nose dive since then. If you are going aftermarket I would look into a Odyssey. There was a pretty good discussion about this in the Off Road and 4x4 awhile ago.
