I was driving down a road. I stop and turn, then all of a sudden when the TQ locked up it was chugging really bad. It felt kinda like the rock in the tank and i turn down another road and stop. The truck was idling perfect. I go to take off and the truck sounds like its missing. My question is when the rock got into my line, could it have caused damage to the fuel pump and now its the signs of a fuel pump going bad? It runs no codes. I also noticed a couple days ago when i would get on it with the evo on, it was NOT blowing the smoke it used to.
Well, i went and pulled the filter out to see if maybe it wasnt filling correctly. My friend turned the key after i drained it and it filled like it used to. I went ahead drained it again and put the filter back in. Cycled the key twice, started it and it was running fine??????? The fuel filter is only 1183 miles old so that is not the culprit. I am buying a fuel pressure gauge so that next time i know right off the bat where the problem lies. Does anyone know why taking the filter out would magically fix it? Could there had been something floating in bowl that was stuck at maybe one of the oulet ports and it came out when i drain it because that is the only thing i can think of.
You may want to go ahead and change the filter completely. If there were water in your fuel it could cause that, and once a fuel filter gets wet, it swells the fibers in it and basically renders it useless. It will look fine, clean even, but useless. Flush the lines well before this tho.
Well last night it did it again. I changed out the fuel filter this mourning and it seems it to be running better. Now i need to find/fix the oil pressure sensor on top of the HPOP resivoir because i hit it taking the fuel filter.
John as long as its not leaking it wont cause any driveablility issues. The sender is wired directly to the Gauge. I saw one on ebay real cheap a couple of days ago.
It wasn't leaking, but i was afraid it was going to start leaking since it was broke all around. So I decided to try super glue to hold it together and that didn't work. So i tried a hot glue gun and had much success, it held together perfectly and i could not break it. I'm gonna buy a new one so I'm going eBay searching.
There is a screen on the inside of the fuel pump inlet. It might be clogged. When I had my fuel pump out for the first time last year it was full and the truck was losing fuel pressure every time I stepped on the throttle.
Is there a way to clean out that screen? I thought when i had it out, the inlet looked as if there was no way to get into it. The oulet looked like the fitting unscrewed.

Maybe with some carb cleaner and blasting it with compressed air, using a very small tube that is able to fit up inside the inlet.
There is no way to get in there and remove the screen to really clean it out.
The outlet fitting does unscrew.
At the auto parts store you can get a small-bore bristle brush, looks like either a tiny bottle brush or a pipecleaner on steroids; You can use that.
I have often wondered if one could reverse the polarity on a pump (OUT of the truck!) and get the pump to flush itself, but I've been too apprehensive to try it. maybe one of these days when I have access to a used one.

There's a non-removable check valve in the outlet side.
Otherwise that would be a great idea to try.
When i had the pump out testing it, i accidentally hooked it up backwards and nothing happened, i thought it would pump backwards too. I'm going to try cleaning that out, hopefuly it will work better.
