New radiator thermostat back flushed system. Not much heat front vents slightly more rear vents. 1990 aerostar 3.0.Read alot about blend door opening and closing. I do not hear anything when adjusting from vent to heat. Another question is when blower placed on should center vent blow air mine does not. thanks terry
Where the air comes out depends on the lever setting.
Heat - blows at your feet
Vent - blows out the vents in the dash
Defrost - blows on the windshield
mix - blows both at your feet and the windshield
A/C - blows out the vents in the dash
Max (A/C)- blows out the vents in the dash with fresh air opening closed.
The blend door is controled by the temperature selector. You have have hot, warm, or cold air depending on where you put this.
So, is the problem that the air is not hot or that you don't get much air?
Also, Vent, AC, and MAC (A/C) should cause the air to come out the top vents in the back while Heat, Defrost, and Mix should cause heated air to come out the floor vent in the back.
Could be a plugged heater core like Ken said. Or you may need to adjust the blend door cable. You have to raise the top of the dashboard to get to the cable.
Will the temp lever move all the way in the cold direction? If not look at the cable.
The temp control lever uses a cable not a vacuum line. Check valve will not affect the temperature.
You don't have to take off most of the dash. If I remember correctly you remove the cover/hood that is over the instrument panel. Then remove a few screws (some of which are a bear as they are near the windshield). Then lift up the panel to expose the cable and mechanism.
Move the cable back and forth to see if you get free/full movement of the door.
