ok so I pulled across the scales today and total wieghtwas 22,044lbs. is this crazy for a F-250 and is it safe to pull a tag along trailor this heavy at 65 to 70 mph in overdrive . any suggestions.......
nah I was pulling 30 foot flat bed trailor with a bobcat 345 mini excavator,3 extra buckets and a small bundle of rebar. the trailor is a hudson with a pintle hook hitch, I wish I had a 5th wheel.
i havnt rolled the scale yet, but i bet im close, my 5er is 13K full, and not sure about the truck weight, but its the same as yours. any way,,,,,,i towed all summer, and it tracks good at 60, at 70 it felt a little unstable, so i try and keep about 60.
also, breaking into any kind of turn can get kinda harry,,,,,,,,,,,many time last summer i felt the 5er pushing over the leafs, (the tires were set but the bed was being forced sideways over the axle, and i dont think it would take much to break the tires loose,,,,,,,,,,,,i believe my tung weight is 800 lbs or so. but having 13K push around a 6 or 7K truck doesnt feel too safe,,,,,,,,any way, i wouldt be doin 70 unless you can see the highway for as far as you can see,
also tows in OD just fine.
I would say if you had a goose or 5th wheel hitch on the first trailer, maybe. But I wouldn't want to try and control two trailers if the first was a bumper pull. I willing to be that you already get some slap out of the pintle hitch.
Bigtorque, from the sounds of it, you need to set the brakes on the trailer a little tighter. The trailer shouldn't push you at all, okay a little if you are doing a very hard brake, but under normal driving, the trailer should stop itself.

That has been my experience as well, I was towing a 16' dump trailer 4000# empty and then loaded two pallets of roofing, around 9000# + trailer and I was at 13,000. Truck did fine until the electric brakes started to fail. I was getting pushed all over the place until I fixed it and set them up a little tighter. Never knew it was behind me after that. Other than trying to take off from a dead stop up hill was a little frightening, truck did fine but I have never towed that much before and I was waiting for something to break. Truck did just great though.
thanks, i also just finished my EBPV brake..........we will see how the brakes feel this summer, my brake controller. is very touchy, i remember playing with it and a tiny adjustment made the trailer jerk the truck, but most of the pushing was not on the break, just going down hill in manual 2nd, im hoping the exhaust brake will help a little more.
