Value Help Please

I was sitting at a red light yesterday and some furball on a cell phone mashed into the back of me at about 40 mph.
I need to get a reasonable estimated value of my truck.
It's a 1972 F100 Sport Custom short bed, 60,000 documented original miles, 360 C6, A/C, P/S, P/B, no dents (until now), completely rust free.
Any ideas on the value??

Thanks.

go to Cars-on-line.com..look within the truck category..sounds like was a decent one..anywhere from $2500 - $5500 for starters..probably more to those really hunting..by the way to the jackals..yes I cannot place a value on something I did not see or drive or hear run but then again you cannot place a value on my reply

NADA also has a collector car/truck price guide.... I would get a few estimates from some of the best body shops I know and demand that the idiot with the cell phone's insurance company pay for the repairs, or we'll see ya in court.... The insurance company will try to give you a kiss off price of about $1,000.00 for the truck!!!!

Well I just got a call from bozo's insurance company, and the guy says that it appears that bozo may not have coverage from their end and that I may want to pursue other avenues. What the hell does that mean? What kind of lawyer do I need to contact, an insurance lawyer or a P.I. lawyer???

Please do not put names of companies in the message. -Moderator

i'm not sure of this but i think your insurance will cover it (depending on your coverage) and then try to get the $ out of the bozo's insuranse company.

good luck...Russ

That is odd, I guess different states require different insurance, but liability is for the damage that you do to others property. If you were in a travel lane at a traffic light and was hit by another drivers vehicle, I don't understand how they would not be responsiable.

Sounds to me like either the guy did not have insurance, or his insurance company is beginning a long and protracted stall campaign. I would get a lawyer on it really quick before the bozo blows town or something... Maybe could get the cops involved if liability insurance is mandatory where you live... Heck I think it's mandatory everywhere isn't it??

The driver who causes the accident is always responsible. It's the insurance company that's saying they're not responsible. This is probably because the guy didn't pay his premium and therefore had NO coverage.

That's exactly what happened, Bozo was not up to date on his payments. Fortunately small claims just went up to $7500.

Bummer. I'd see if your insurance company could at least provide some advice as to what to do. When my Mustang go eaten by an 18 wheeler, my liability was useless but my insurance agent helped me through the process. (They know you're gonna need insurance on a new vehicle, all the more reason to help you now).

BTW, their insurance company totaled my car and were going to crush it but I talked them out of it and had them give it back to me. They don't want to deal with older vehicles apparently. fyi.

Any chance you have "uninsured motorist property damage" insurance? If so then you have insured yourself against this exact situation.

A professional appraiser will usually be needed by the court. Their services cost a few $$ but in this case would be well worth it. Even if they can't hear it run etc they can do a fair job of estimating value using info from many sources.

The reason I had liability only is because the truck had been sitting in my driveway for a year and I never drive it. I just had minimum coverage to keep the tags current. Just my luck the day I drive it somebody plows me.
As it turns out the kid with the lapse in insurance appears to be stepping up to the plate. I just got a call from him telling me that his dad is going to co-sign a loan for him on Tuesday to pay for my truck.
I got an estimate of $4418.90 to fix it.
I did some research in a few local papers and it seems that cherry '72 F100 short beds, p/s, p/b, a/c are going for between $5,000 and $12,000. That kinda surprised me.
