Oh yeah, Bobby ,
I "fergut" to mention "PRECEDENT". Here's how it works, especially with a special Interest Insurer.
If you been paying a rate to insure a particular value for your vehicle, which is beyond what Insurance Co. actuaries guess it's worth, or what they think it's worth to them, you have, by precedent, established its' Value to you. You have supported that value by paying premiums required to insure it against loss or damage at an insured value. Nobody can dispute that established figure, because that's what you "Value" it at historically. Do not let some silk mouthed Business suit type try to confuse value with worth.
Worth is subjective, Value is objective. A subjective opinion can not outweigh Objective fact. When you put down "du$t: to in$ure $omething for $ome pre$cribed value, that i$ fact, not opinion.
Roger That concept?

Thanks, Pete. There has been a lot of useful information given here. I'm gonna put my truck back together and it's going to be insured to the hilt.
BTW, good short beds for these things are hard to find.
I was sitting at a red light yesterday and some furball on a cell phone mashed into the back of me at about 40 mph.
I need to get a reasonable estimated value of my truck.
It's a 1972 F100 Sport Custom short bed, 60,000 documented original miles, 360 C6, A/C, P/S, P/B, no dents (until now), completely rust free.
Any ideas on the value??
Thanks.
I just got the my new (used) bed for my truck today. I'm starting the process of getting it back to where it was before the accident. Still haven't got any money from the jackass that hit me but we have a small claims court date on the 28th of this month (I know a judgement doesn't mean I'll ever see any money).
Anyhow, I'm $1000 into the bed so far, had to pay to have it shipped. I gotta spend another $200-$250 to have it blasted inside, outside and underside. Prolly another $600-$800 to have all the dings taken out, painted and undercoated.
I found an NOS Ranger tailgate trim panel for $250 which should be here in the next few days from N.H.
Still need to find a cherry tailgate.
I figure I might as well paint the entire truck.
I'll try to figure out how to post some pics of the repair process right up to the finish.
I won a judgement in my court case today for $7500.00
I also found out that if no money is paid by a certain date that I can resue with added interest.
The guy tried to argue that a '72 F100 short bed Sport Custom couldn't be worth that much. I had pictures and every receipt from anything I've ever done to my truck ($4700.00 worth).
The judge told the defendant, "There are vehicles that are 35 years old that are pieces of junk and there are vehicles, like the plaintiff's, that are restored and nice. You already got a break when the plaintiff chose to take you to small claims instead. Judgement for the plaintiff in the amount of $7500.00, pay the man."
We'll see what happens now.
Congrats on the settlement!!! If he doesn't pay up, I would do everything the law allows to make his life one of total misery!!!!!! Maybe some of these dummies on the road today will wake up and start paying attention to their driving when they here about settlements like this one!!!!
Where I live, if I'm not mistaken you have to pay for uninsured cov when you insure your vehicle. But then again, I remember reading some months ago in the paper that approx 1 driver in 7 or 9 (dont remember exact #) doesnt have ANY insurance. I drive 10 m to work everyday, and everyday I see at least 3 vehicles that dont have any plates, and a lot of them dont have any paper on any windows either. I suspect that some of the taped on windshield temporary forms are prob copies of some other persons car anyway. Usually these are the cars that have at least one inflate-a-spare in place of a real tire. If I see this many infractions, wouldnt the police see them too? And while I'm on a rant, whats with all the stolen grocery store shopping carts in the streets just waiting to be smashed into? If I steal a candy bar from the store, I'm a shoplifter, but if you take a cart off the lot, nobody looks. OBTW, when my '72 F100 was stolen from the front of my house a few yrs ago, the cop told me that approx 1000 vehicles were stolen a month in this city. I think I recently read that this # has almost doubled in 06. That is prob the biggest reason that we pay the second highest ins rates in the country. Of course they say half of them are lit on fire because they cant make the payments.
Here in California you need proof of insurance when you send in your money for next years registration of your vehicle.
One thing, your registration tag is good for a year and people buy one months worth of insurance to meet DMV's insurance requirement, drive 11 without.
I was told the clean 68 CS I have due to age is between 3 and $500 if wrecked, hell the rods alone are more than that not counting internally balanced 428 crank.
Price a fully trimed tailgate your over $1,500 alone.

Hey Beemer, if ya wreck it I'll take that crank off your hands!!!!! I guess I could use the rods, too... You want that $500 in tens or twenties?????

One thing that's cool now (in California) is that the insurance company, by law, has to report a lapse in coverage to the DMV. The DMV then suspends the no-longer-covered vehicle's registration and the next time the guy/girl gets pulled over his/her vehicle gets impounded.
I bet they can get half the cars off the street in Oakland with impounding uninsured vehicles, half of them alone probably stolen.
Dave; trucks safe off the road last 3 weeks, intake gasket started leaking anti-freeze into the oil plus a good time to freshen up the heads and install .020" head gaskets.
Hail wind rain and cold not allowing me to assemble. The back hates this cold weather.
All parts clean and ready, gasket matched heads and F427 intake, can't wait
to test the improvements.

Well, nothing but snow here. Blizzard warning thru Friday!!!!! Should be able to get a lot of work done with no interruptions!!!
Anxious to hear how the fresh engine comes out!!! Should be a strong runner!!!
PS, does this mean I don't get the crank and rods?????? LOL
Just a valve job, the block's at 248K, she'll run a long time as most was highway mileage.
Once I get running I have to haul things out of storage including
the DMC then snag a 70 CS that's waiting for me for $300. My son turns
16 this month this will be his truck, he's eyeing the 414 motor knowing how 360 trucks don't move. He wants me to build 482 sooner the better. I have a few 390 and 428 cranks (one 428 that goes thud), maybe we'll build another 414.

I'm forced into being retarded, oops I mean retired so big spending is out unless I can create a money making idea. May have to fire up the Bridgeport when the back allows. This would be a tax free thing.
