Question Wheel / Tire size, offset, etc question

Hi folks, I've found a lot of great info here, but just needed to clarify a couple of things.

I've currently got an '03 F250 FX4 with the King Ranch package. It's got the King Ranch 16" rims. Picture is below.

I'd like to go to a bigger tire, like a 305 or 315. My understanding is that my current rim is 16x7, so I'll need a wider rim.

Also note that I've purchased the Donohoe Racing 2" Mini-Spring Pack to level the front.

I really like the Moto Metal rims, and I'd like to stay in a 16" rim if possible, like the Moto Metal 950's which come in a 16x8. If necessary, I'll go to a 9" rim, like the 17x9 size of the Moto Metal 951's.

So that's question 1. (for a 315 tire, do I need larger than an 8" rim).

Question 2 would be: For the Moto Metal options I'm considering, what's the offset and lug spacing I'm looking for?

I sure value your feedback, there sure are a lot of knowledgable and helpful folks here!

Thanks in advance!
TX

Hey Tx,

You don't NEED a rim wider than 8", unless your going w/ a tire wider than a 12.50". A 10" might give you a flatter footprint but it wouldn't be necessary. If your using a 305/75 or a 315/75 you'll be fine w/ an 8" rim.

I believe your lug spacing should be 8x170mm. This is what my 04 is anyway.

And your offset should be somewhere between 4.25" and 4.50". That combined w/ an 8" wide wheel and a 12.5" tire, will make the tire stick out just beyond the outer lip of the fender.

I hope this helps man!! Good luck and take pics when your done!!

Yes please post pictures. I have been looking at the Moto Metals (950 and 951) too except with a 305 tire or one size smaller. I don't want them to stick out past the fender.

Question

Wow sweet trucks everyone!!!! I cannot wait till my 150 4x4 gets delivered, its been 4 weeks and any day now I'll be posting some pics.

I'm definatly going to level her out....with what I think will be the AS 2.5 kit, so many choices?????

Anyway I'm sold on the Moto Metal 951 chrome 18x9's and BFG AT 305/65/18 does anyone have this combo currently on their truck. I'm really concerned about the tire sticking out past the fender, should I go smaller than the 305?????

Thanks for any comments suggestions.

James

I'm having a Donohoe leveling kit, MotoMetal 951's and 315/70/17's installed on my 05 Crew Cab PSD this week. I'll post pics when it's done. The guy at the shop said 305 would be no problem, 315's MIGHT rub but if so, not much. I opted for the 305's as they are almost 34" which if fine.
