muffler removal?

i have a '99 f-350 supercab/ chassis-cab 4x4

how much different does it sound if the muffler is removed and replaced with a piece of pipe? this thing just sounds like it wants to go more and is restricted somehow. i did replace the air filter with a k&n and cut the airbox for better airflow and that seemed to help quite a bit. i'm not going with the programmer, headers, flowmasters. just looking to get a little bit more for less. mileage is not an issue--company pays for fuel. besides, gas is cheaper than milk and none of the tree-huggers are complaining about wasting that.

This has been discussed quite a few times on here.
The general consensus is that the V-10 sounds like crap with a loud exhaust. It doesn't sound good like a V-8 does.
I'd be surprised if you noticed much difference in power.
But then some people equate more noise with more power
