new Magnaflow

I just got a new magnaflow muffler on my 4.0 Ranger.. and well it sounds about like stock, will this get a little bit louder as the muffler gets more miles on it? or am I just screwed and need to go get a diffent muffler put on it that will be a little louder???

Each muffler brand is a little bit different. When I first installed a Gibson muffler on my 01 F150, it got louder with extra miles. On my 96 Bronco, the Bassani muffler I installed seemed to get a little bit quieter with more miles. It sounds like yours is similar to my Gibson. I would give it a few hundred miles to really break it in. What kind of exhaust note are you looking for? I dont know much about the magnaflow line, but, like many others, some models are quieter than others (Flowmaster 70 series versus 40 series for example).

Im just looking for an exhaust note that is a little louder than stock, and deep, I dont want that ricey buzzy sound that V6s have a tendency to get, Im going to give this muffler a few thousand miles, and than IM probably going to change it if it doesnt get any louder... I even have it exiting like a lightening in front of my rear passangerside tire, and its still not got much sound to it

I have about 10,000 miles on my Magnaflow.

It has gotten ~just slightly~ louder behind my v-6 (4.0 OHV)

In recalling the sales literature, I bough this muffler because it advertised it's self as being "just a little louder than OEM with a lot deeper tone".

So . . if loud is your criteria, you got the wrong muffler I am afraid.

P.S. In my opinion; I like the low end power better than the noise - so I am mucho happy with my Magnaflow!

CTfuzzy, thanks thats what I was wanting to konw, Im not looking for loud, Im looking for a little more volume than stock, but with a lot more aggressive sound, and Ive got the same motor as you, so Ill probably end up being happy with it once it "breaks in" then from what IM reading right?

Yes, I think you'll be happy with it.

I still occasionally will have a vehicle pull up on my right side in traffic and I'll hear it and think: "hey, that sounds pretty good" only to realize it was some propane powered city vehicle and what I was hearing was my truck's sound "ricocheting" off it's side.

my advice would to be to take your muffler off and replace it with a straight peice of pipe....I did this with my 4.0 ranger that i used to have and it was loud but not to loud....and it didn't have that ricey sound....I also just did this to my 2000 f-150 5.4 and i love it... sounds like a muscle car.....I payed like 30 bucks for the pipe to be installed at a muffler shop....

I love MF's. I believe it will get louder. You could drill some holes in it!
