i have a 94 f150 with a 302 efi. My problem is, sometimes when i push on the gas i have this rattling noise. It sounds like something small rattling. It does it real good when im going up a hill. When im on the gas(not to the floor just normal) and it starts rattling, i can let off the gas and it stops. I dont know what it is but daddy's does the same thing. And he has a 94 with a 302 efi. Is this commom on 302 of this year model?
This could be several things.
Most likely you have a timing issue. Could also be bad fuel, and a hot (overheated) engine will also do this.
Best guess is you're timing is off.
Bob
but the check engine light came on today stayed on for about a minute and went off. My oil pressure is running at the "A" on normal. The charge was good and the temp was at the line before Normal. Daddy said that that could have been my o2 sensor. i was thinking maybe it was something in the cat rattling?
Still leaning towards you're timing. You need to put a timing light on it and see where it's at. If anything if you don't have a timing light, advance, or retard you're timing just abit. Then drive the truck again and see if it help's.. Or made it worse.
Ya know I've owned 6 fords in my years, pleased with ford, and one of the biggest things that I've had problems with rattleing is the center piece on the stick shift. the first time it started rattling it took about 2 hours for me to figure it out.
Do you and Dad get your gas at the same place....................?
no not all the time. It doesnt sound like spark knocking. i've heard what spark knocking sounds like. Its like a piece of metal rattling. But it dont do it all the time
your cat converter is shot. i have this very issue on my 88 bronco. thought it was pinging (not), thought it was exhaust leak (not). smacked the cat with a rubber malet and discoverd the exact sound. look into a bassani Y pipe with hi flow cat and be done. good luck
