There's more then a "slight" drop in MPG with E85!

E85 is a good alternative but this is horse crap how tax payers subsidize it before it gets to the pump to make the illusion that it's cheaper. It's NOT and I'm tired of this product being pushed down our throats in this deceptive manner. The number 1 use of corn in the US is for cattle feed. If E85 fully catches on the price will rise so high that we'll either loose a lot of our cattle farms or at a minimum we'll be paying "market" lobster prices for a stake. This is clearly a case of "unintended consequences" as in we may gain in one area but it’s at a great cost in other areas that people either can't see or don't want to.

The larger cattle feeders are feeding the gluten, the leftover from the ethanol process. Many acres of land lay unused from government programs that paid the farmers to not use the land so as to get the prices to go higher, now that they are, I would expect much of that land will come back into use. Already record numbers of acres are planned to be planted into corn this year, as it is finally profitable to do so, especially with the fuel prices making it more expensive, which would drive out many farmers as well. Many cattle producers also raise their own corn stock as well, they are fools if they don't.

Dad's 2006 F150, 4x4 Super Crew, 5.4L Flex Fuel:

Unleaded regular, mixed city / highway: 15mpg
E85, mixed city / highway: 13mpg

Like I said, slight reduction in mileage.

Now in a GM vehicle, it might go down from 18 to 10. I'll have to dig up that article though.

Computer calibration has a lot to do with it. If the computer advances the timing on E85, your mileage starts to come back.

Unless there have been recent changes, here's the scoop on taxes:
