Good Morning,
I haven't posted for a long time. Nothing goes wrong with the van. This is van #2. We had a 90. Now we still have 95. 4.0 AWD. 180k
The question is. Can I change out the 2-3 shift solenoid myself ? I have lift. I just got my DVD Ford Service manual. As long as I'm in there I'll change the rest ?
The kids didn't want to be caught dead driving it, until he took it skiing. Wow Dad. It really works. DAH. What have I been telling you. It's a lot easier to drive than the Expedition.
shift solenoids seldom fail....check the wiring loom, the trans case plug, the interior tranny harness and the wire ends going onto the solenoid....wiggle each connection/wire looking for intermittent=common......save some bucks and takeapartagain headaches
I'll claim ignorance. LOL. I assumed it was 2-3. I don't drive it much.
That's what I thought. Drop the valve body and its sitting right there with a couple wires sticking out. Some where I remember seeing a picture. But for the life of me a can't remember where. I'll dig thru the DVD and see what I see and report back.
The first! To change the solenoid it is not necessary to remove valve body. I did it. But solenoids fail rarelly. Check its resistance on connector. No reason to remove oil pan, change its gasket if the resistance in ok. Well, I saw A4LDs with 1, 2 and 4 solenoids. The tranny with 4 solenoids was on '95 scorpio, so I suggest it may be on '95 aero. 2-3 shiftings dont engage properly becouse of worn clutch disks of 1:1 (direct) gear. But with worn direct gear clutch OD does not work too.
TBW. Do you see DTC codes about this solenoid? If not, be sure it is ok.
OD shifts fine. Just that on shift.
I don't have the code reader for my 95, just my 99. I can go over to my friends shop and have it read.
Where do I find the harness connector to do a continuty check ?
Thanks.
Well that didn't work. My friend doesn't have any tranny code software in his Mentor gadget. He doesn't do trannsmissions. . But I did drive it a bit. You might be on to something. The shift to OD at 55mph has a little studder to. Hmmmmmmmmm. But the biggest one is when you hard brake into a corner, them accelerate. I still think its 2-3. But I could be mistaken.
What kind of code reader would I need to read the tranny codes ?
I really want to rebuild the tranny myself if I need it. I live up here in rural MT. The best tranny guy in 100 miles lives about a mile away. So if I get stuck I can box it up and haul it down the road.
where is your OBD port? '95 was the model year split between the old and new present systems
left front fender wall=OBDI old EECIV
under dash center below steering wheel=OBDII new EECV
any OBDI code reader will work on OBDI as long as you have correct cable connection
you can also read by putting system into read mode with jumper wire and count CEL dash light blinks...search forum for directions
any OBDI code reader will work
OBDI has very simple transmission monitoring capability with few error failure codes
OBDI only controls 3>4 aka OD shift and TC lockup
OBDII scanner needs Ford protocol built in
OBDII EECV controls all shifts and has dozens of error failure codes
I should have one or the other, correct ? This is an early build so I assume that it's the old one. I don't remember anything under the dash.
I have an ACTRON II for the Expedition. Nothing for this.
I'm thinking for $60 this looks better. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...QQcmdZViewItem
