Just thought you guys may be able to help me figure out where a "Thud" in my truck is coming from....
Usually occurs after the truck has cooled off (overnight or in a parking lot for 8+ hours).
The thud always occurs after the the engine has started and has been running for 10 to 30 seconds.
The "Thud" appears to come from the right front of the car and "heavy" sounding. Some days it is "heavier" than others. It does not seem to affect the performance of the vehicle and does not happen all the time. It almost sounds like something on the susupension is breaking free / becoming unstuck, yet nothing odd seems to be happening. It does not sound like a stuck vent flap in the dash assembly.
The other thought (which is kinda along the same lines) is the AC compressor kicking on. Which position on the HVAC controls do you usually leave it in?
I get "the thud" as it is called. LOL I leave my truck on full defrost this time of year, but I don't think that is it. My thud is when I go to move it in the morning.

The "Thud" on mine is always the blend door slamming shut when vacuum is re-established...putting it back in it's normally closed position after it has fallen open by lack of vacuum
My 05 dose the same thing, it is the A/C clutch. Only does it every now and then only after truck sets for awhile.I also have the vent door thud under the dash also. Took mine to the dealer and they printed me out a paper from ford stateing that this was normal for these trucks and to turn off the A/C before turning off the truck and then after starting the truck the next morning turn back on A/C. Seemed to work, but I never remember to turn it off so I just live with it. Its kind of embarrassing though when someone gets in your truck and you start it and makes that loud popping noise!
It seems like it is related to the vacuum. Funny thing, i have not heard or felt it in the last 10 days. My temp control system has been set to "Auto" continiously since the temperature has dropped back to "Normal" for this part of the world.
