I was told buy a guy at a resent truck pull in merced(central california) said that they do build a shorty style header for turbo charged idi motors and I thought he was nuts.so I asked if he had a set.he said no.so I went about me own.
I have heard rumers or there being such thing.so I heard rong.
I do like the chaleng of building some thing of that caliber and makeing it work but I don't have kinda time at the moment.
so I was givein missinformation so lets all forget about the header thing
My valve is a little goofy sometimes and the rear tank will dump to the front. You can tell when really easy cuz it will empty the rear tank in no time.
Needles to say I always run my front tank first so I don't have a spill.
I kinda figured it would be pretty readily apparent if I had that kind of issue. No problems like what you're describing....
whitefordawrd, headers with a turbo, now I'd love to see that....stans headers says it cant be done....take lots of pics and if it works out, you might have a side job making them up for guys on this forum.
while it may not be practicle or easy, if you can make this
<img src="http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/images/tech_center/tech_102/Welded_tubular_turbocharger_manifold.gif"></img>
you can make a turbo header for the 6.9/7.3.

Hmmm...The more I look at that gallery pic the more identical I think it is to our IDIs...Do you think that they would fit with a little modification? I'm thinking of emailing that company and seeing if the could modify that set to fit an IDI... sure would be interesting wouldn't it?
Yeah, I was kinda' wondering that myself. I'm sure the manifolds are different between a 7.3 PS and a 7.3/6.9 IDI, but are the bolt patterns/exhaust ports different? Would the 7.3 PS manifolds bolt on?

ok nheres some 6.9 manifolds. pic via ebay
here is the powerstroke left hander via ebay
here is the idi header
and here is the powerstroke header
where they exit seem to be different, but ports are equally spaced, and i see no reason for them to be closer or farther apart. what do we have to lose? other than a wad of cash?
i myself always pictured those hot rod headers like sb chebbies used turned upside down for twin turbos...
well now seeing some pics and i printed those pics out.I'm going to blow them up at work and present them to some of the other guys at work.I have the material and equipment to give it a shot.it may be a little while I have a lot of work staked up to get out of the way.I have a nother 7.3 with a turbo I could do the mockup on.I may shoot at the idea after I make some time.I told you all I love the chaleng.SO WHAT THE HELL!
the first set of pic is what I had in mind.the driver side header will me easyer couse the x-over pipe is under the motor.atleast on my ats set up.I wont to keep it simple and compact as possible.something when you look at it and you'll say an idiot can build that.thats what I'm looking for.I talk to one of ower engineers at work and he is willing to enlist his help couse he has one of these old 7.3 beutys as well.haveing an engineer help may be my worst mistake.no offence if any of you are engineers.
