I know many people who build these amazing trucks just to put them in the back of some trailer and drive them from show to show. if your going to spend the money and time on a ol' truck you may as well but it all to the test and drive your truck all the time... you build 'em to drive'em
I'm with you, Fordster. I use mine as a pickup truck because that's what it is. Of course I put down blankets or cardboard to try to avoid scratching the bed too badly when I haul stuff, but I have a great time driving it. I'm just using it like Henry Ford intended. And some day my kids will put it through a second restoration if they choose!
Bobby.. I have the pic of your Caddy powered smokey burnout as my desktop wallpaper right now. Makes me grin every time I look at it.
Rob.. I can't wait to get going on it, but progress will be minimal till spring. I do some moonlighting and took on a programming job a while back that will use up my spare time for a couple months. I got a big kick out of your `56 Ford's history. That's a priceless pickup you have. I bookmarked the link.
Don.. I've bookmarked the link to your gallery too. Mercury trucks are so rare it's hard to find good pics and info at all, so I'm surprised and very pleased to have run across another `50 project. You're doing an awesome job with it. I'm going to create a link to your gallery from the Mercury pages on my website. I see you're located in Alberta. My truck is originally from the Cold Lake area.
Not me! Mine runs just fine...however...stopping would be a major problem.
Brian, that's why I'm working on the whoa factor before the go part If it would stop raining every weekend around here I might get a little work done on the truck.
I need to update it now that I have the bed (well, most of a bed) on the truck. Hopefully this summer I'll find a posi unit for the differential. If you liked the still pic here is a video clip of it (sorry, no sound)
Couldn't watch the video Bobby. I installed Vista Ultimate on my workstation and I'm still picking up the pieces. Vista was supposed to turn my new computer into a whiz bang multimedia machine. It's acting more like a drunken monkey though. Internet Explorer 7.0 won't even work. That's okay. I prefer Firefox anyway.
I'm going to continue to drive my truck throughout the restoration and after as well. I could never own a vehicle that just sat in the garage or on the back of a trailer. To me thats boring and you never get to enjoy all of the work you put in to it. Mine will be driving again soon and with a shiny rebuilt frontend. One section at a time while trying to keep it on the road as much as possible is my goal. When I'm finished though I will definately be driving to some local shows whenever possible.
