Hey! I love that Cummins. Trouble is the rest of the truck except for the cab size sucks. Ford makes the best truck by far over the next closest.
The cummins is a great engine... Comes with a bad truck...
But man what an engine...
When I was shopping for a new truck I heard great things about the cummins, but damn if its only available in a dodge... I use to wish you could get a cummins in the superduty...
But I went with my true love and my 06 Powerstroke has been 100% trouble free for 20,000 miles so far. Not so much as an oil drip. I'm way happy. Only thing my buddy with a cummins gets is better gas mileage. Gets around 24 highway with the cummins.
Non of us will ever agree on this one.And to be honest I could go either way myself after owning both gas and diesel. I just traded off my 02 250 lariet 7.3 with just under 250K miles on it..I towed about 70% of the time I owned it.From 4K to 27K loads(at times).(Equipment sales).Truck gave me excellent service..The only things I changed besides normal brakes, etc were an alternator,belt,2 U joints, front ball joints once and one injector..THATS some great service guys for a truck I seviced well but used hard.Even the 4r100 tranny held up perfect that long with only oil changes for service work.
But this time around I did buy a new 5.4 06 250 4x4 with the automatic..No it does not have quite the grunt of the 7.3 down low.But with the 4.30 gears I installed it does quite well.A much stronger motor than the older 2v 5.4 it seems to me.5k less plus 40 cents a gallon I guess is what got my attention.Even though I KNOW in a towing mode I wont do as well as the diesel mileage wise. But so far I have averaged 14 for the first 3K miles(not towing) My plans include a blower from Trilogy performance to wake things up a bit..So we will see how that turns out..I am sure I will have to watch the octane close to keep it happy..
So to get back on the subject,I would vote for the V10 if your not towing constantly. The 6.0 performs and pulls excellent(drove an 03 for a company for 6 months) but its to bad it doesnt have the reputation for reliability the 7.3 enjoys even though many of them are doing quite well now.I am however a little concerned about the new diesel fuel and how it will effect all diesels long term...Good luck on your choice..
yes. Mullay, head guy at Ford is jacking up international right now as a matter of fact holding up production of 08's till certain issues with international are resolved. That info came from Ward's and Ford. If things get out of hand we are liable to see a cat in the superduty while Ford makes its own engine. Ford has always made great engines and they make a couple of great Deisels in Europe so why not one for the superduty. If they did I'll bet it would kick butt on the Cummins.
Having open house next Sunday hopefully I will get to test drive a couple of vehicles then. If I decide to go with a diesel is there anyway to get a dealer to give me a warranty repair report on the vehicle?
here's my $.02.fact # 1- ford makes a great truck.fact #2-my 05 f-350sd 6.0 psd is an exceptionally well built truck EXCEPT for the navistar 6.0 P.O.S.!it has 47,000 miles and these are the things that were replaced, turbo, egr cooler, oil cooler, intake manifold(coked )intercooler tubes and now finally a new short block.(lost compression)so,i getting rid of it and buying an 07sd v-10.i've had many ford gassers and worked them all without near the problems with way more miles.this is my first and last diesel.people who believe the 6.0 is a good engine probably also believe in santa clause.

SuperdutyrangerOk you have made your point, have you cried to Ford as much as you have here? Probably a much better way to channel your energy than by 6.0 bashing on this forum.

crying?is that what you call the truth?i take it your a diesel guy.sorry i upset you.the 6.0 is the greatest engine EVER!don't worry santa will buy you a new 6.0 when that one breaks.(just kidding)don't take it personal.
with all the gasjob bashing that goes on around here surely you diesel guys could take something that is the TRUTH. I'm not saying the 6.0L is a bad engine, but this is straight from the horses' mouth... when smoker owners stop bashing the gassers, I think then the 6.0L/7.3L owners will gain more credibility
Take something that is the truth? What is that? I have owned 2 6.0l's. I even had a dreaded 03 (late 02 engine build date). The intercooler hose blew off once (permanently fixed it before the updated hoses/clamps cameout) and had 4 injectors and the ficm replaced. Never had another problem with the truck. My 05 has been to the shop for the latest flash and thats it. The 03 had 60k on it when I traded it for the 05. (need 4X4 here if you want to go anywhere, that was not the case in FL) I have never owned, nor would I own a 7.3, so I cannot help you there. I have driven both side by side on a daily basis (5.4 and 6.0) for 6 months. That said, I would never own a 5.4 either. The original poster of this thread wanted something with power and liked to do performance mods. That pretty much knocks the 5.4 right out of the discussion. That leaves the V10, I have driven a couple of these as well, albeit they were older, to say the least I was not impressed with them either. From an investment standpoint, the diesel is a winner all the way around. A guy I work with just traded a 02 with a 5.4 in it, he didn't get anything for it when trading it in. Now if it was a diesel (134,000 miles is what he had on it) he would have had some pretty good equity in the vehicle. I am guessing I would sit on trying to sell that truck for quite a while, however if it was equipped with a 7.3, I could sell it like 10 minutes ago.
I forgot that around here: diesel = gospel
gas = doesn't matter, gas-owners shalt not argue with the
owner of a diesel... diesel owners have better trucks,
clearly get more women, are more manly, and are
generally just better people overall than gas-owners.
Please forgive my trespasses, oh great Gods of diesel. Please allow me to stay on the road with you... even though my truck is obviously inferior in every way, even down to the pin-striping. I'll do anything if you grant me the permission of looking at your almighty truck. Can I even touch it? I mean, my v-10 shouldn't even be in the same parking lot as a diesel truck... what am I thinking when parking? Geez, I'm so stupid.
Our family is moving 3000 miles away to northern Canada as missionaries and until recently I was planning on purchasing a slightly used 04 or 05 F350 deisel. After reading about all the problems with the 6.0 I am not sure what to purchase. I will be using the truck to tow all our belongings north and the will return this summer to haul two Mustangs back with me. Please give me some opinions with reasons to help me in my decision.
Oh no... Here we go again. I went away for a few hours and it's back to the diesel vs gas thing again. How about this. What part of the north are you moving to?
