i have a diagnostic gizmo to plug into my trucks putet to tell me the numbers but i havre no idea what they are supposed to be .... any idea where i can get the specs to compare to waht i have showing up right now .... for example i have no idea what the boost is supposed to be etc...
my 97 f250 7.3l turbo diesel is running rough lately and seems to have lost power lately ... any ideas... i suspect the turbo not kicking in or wastegate being stuck closed my mechanic friend suggested but it seems to be moving freely imo ...
Your 97 doesnt have a wastegate, but it does have a exhaust backpressure valve behind the turbo that might be what your looking at. Give us the codes or look it up yourself with one of those links ^^^^^
Hey thks guys! i purchased the "edge" ford evolution EEF1000 chip programmer and was amazed at the difference it made in power and fuel economy, i'm getting well over 20 mpg ...no lie! but lately it seems to be lagging badly and shudders at lower highway speeds.... the only way i can describe it seems just like trying to start off in 3rd gear in a standard tranny ...mine is auto... and as soon as you get more speed or step on it to shift dn it smooths out .... it shouldn't need to do that on relatively small hills ...
it seems to start around 1200rpm and smooths out @ 1500 & up
the error codes i'm getting when i put the edge in retrieve error code it says p0344 cam position error ...
p0472 exhaust back intermittent error ...
then when i cleared the codes the p0344 still comes back
and btw when i put the programmer in data mode it shows back pressure @ about 7 or so and goes up to 45.00 highest i've seen...
if oyu ned any more info please ask ...thks for the reply
Check the connection at your cam sensor. located near the crank pulley at about 9 o'clock position. may need to replace it. its not normal for them to suase the problems you are describing but its worth a shot. and if it doesn't help you should have a spare anyway since they are a common failure item. Ebay is the cheapest place to get them. if not there call you friendly IH dealer.
the other code is probably a dirty or bad exhuast backpressure sensor. not really a major issue. it won't cause the problems you have.
check your trans fluid also. also does it feel like a miss? kind of sounds like it from your description but hard to say with out seeing the engine.
well now I just saw that you don't have the normal exhuast backpressure code of 476. the one you have is different. so try this first before you do anything else. unplug the exhuast backpressure valve which is located on the exhuast side of the turbo. the connector to unhook the solenoid for it is right under the air intake hose thats goes into the intake side of the turbo. it is a 2 wire connector that one side will be bolted to the aluminum housing of the turbo.
Dang it ... sorry bout that ...i got that reversed ... when i cleared the codes the p0472 comes back NOT the p0344.. hope that clears it up and btw the tranny fliud is fine actually, so what will unplugging the sensor do.. what should i be looking for ?
i didn't get the 476 code you mentioned just the 472 code...
