If you get the Captain's Chairs, I've heard that it is important to get the electric adjustments option. I have a '99 and an '04 F-250, both with Captain chairs, and I really don't care for the ones they put in the 04. Both were ordered the same, but the 99 were far more comfortable. So much so, I have considered swapping them, but can't due to integral seat belts on the 04 and not the 99.
I've heard that if you get the electric adjustable option, they can be made to fit far better.
OK, I'm also a big guy, so I put more than a little strain on them, but hey, this is a truck, it should be comfortable for us big guys too!
I also prefer the captains - this way you have the storage console. I am a big guy and i find the center storage unit on the bench seats crowds me a bit. It also has a tendency to scramble its contents when flipped up and down. The bench seats are still quite comfy, and if the 3 passenger configuration is required, go for it. Personal preference.
Not sure what we're talking about here since a lot of apples fell out of the orange thread
IF
we are talking about the FRONT ROW SEATS !!!!
NO QUESTION - get the captains !
***********************************
IF
we are talking about the SECOND ROW SEATS !!!!
I've had 3 Ex's - the first 2 limiteds with the 2nd row
"what they call captain chairs, but are really short cheap seats that no one should call Captains "
the third an 05 with a bench for the second row...
and TO A PERSON all say the bench is more comfortable....
wider, larger softer armrest, just all around better..
the short seats I won't call captains are crested in the center such that they make you want to roll off the sides
get what YOU want, but just like remote starts,
all future Ex's I buy will have second row bench
(I KNOW they are discontinued, why do ya think I got the latest)

My old truck had the Captain's Chairs and my 05 has the 60/40 seats with 1 zillion way power seats.... I've driven booth on 400 miles trips....I'll keep the 60/40 bench thanks.

Captain chairs in the front only. I want a bench in the back for 3 people.

I am going to drive the captains chairs in the next couple of days. It seems it comes down to personal choice that seems to be pretty close. Thanks
I own a 2007 F350 lariat and I have owned both bench and captain chairs in the past. I hate the captain chairs because I find that I am always looking for something to lean on on long drives. The little captain armrest dont cut it at all, I find them to close to my body to be practical. I am 6ft3 and have wide shoulders and I think this has alot to do with it. Money was not an option in my decision and comfort was. I put on 30,000km per year.
Is everyone here comparing the captains and bench seats from the same yearand trim level? When I was looking for a new truck it seemed to me like the captains chair and bench seat chair in the lariats were the same except the captains chair had the small armrests attached to the seatback. I'm broad shouldered like rigpig so I found that trying to use the little armrest right next to me felt very uncomfortable. I ride with one arm on the windowsill, or toward the middle of the large center seat armrest depending on which arm I am driving with.
Also, as the band Cake once put it:
Stickshifts and safetybelts,
Bucket seats have all got to go.
When were driving in the car,
It makes my baby seem so far.
I need you here with me,
Not way over in a bucket seat.

I'm comparing my 05 F250 XL to a 00 F350 Lariat and an 05 F250 Lariat. I don't have the 60/40 split, it's just a plain bench(check out my gallery for a pic). I get a cramped feeling with an armrest next to me, even though there's plenty of room...I just like the firm seat, and openess(if that's even a word) of the bench.

Yeah, I kind of wish they still offered a full bench in the crew cab instead of just the 40/20/40. As long as it had a fold down armrest like the back seats to. I guess it's kind of nice for both the driver and passenger to be able to move their own seat for their comfort though too. That and being able to put the JL audio stealthbox in the center seat is awesome too.
Captian chairs by far. I travel 100 miles round trip daily and have a f150 with captian chairs and they are a lot more softer than the split bench in my 07 F250 SD. The bench seems stiffer around the outside edges and the Captian chairs in the 02 F150 are soft all the way.
Count my vote for the 40/20/40, too. Like rigpig and Beerstalker, I'm a big guy, and the armrests on the captains just don't cut it. The only captains I've ever found comfortable were those in our '02 Expedition - my theory being that those were actually made to be captain's chairs, as opposed to slapping an armrest on the inside of the same seats used in the 40/20/40... I like the extra height and big flat surface of the fold down center console of the 40/20/40 alot better, too.
