I cant get this thing started this morn. (19 Deg.) I have had the glow plugs changed and I just checked the glow plug relay with a screwdriver-jumping the terminals, still no good. What else could it be? Thanks.
Does it "fire" at all or do the "romp-romp"? Or is your symptom that it only cranks? What's the age of the batteries?
I had the "romp-romp" a month ago when it got cold here (teens) in SE Pennsylvania. I switched over to Rotella Synthetic 5W40 and have found an improvement in starting. The engine cranks easier/faster and doesn't exhibit the "romp-romp" when it fires off.
PS - I'm sure you did, but did you check the correct relay? Not the AIH relay. Also, not sure when the Fuel Bowl Heater activates or if it could contribute to this problem during startup?
mine has trouble some times also if I dont plug it in. cranks fine, but will if at all start, but low idle and die soon after. I am going to replace the GPR. have already done teh CPR. but when is down to single or even below digit's I WILL plug her in. cause one morning it took me 45 min to start the dang truck. will know more after I put in the GPR and see how it starts.
good luck, and I will be watch this post.
Check your terminals again. You shouldn't have problem starting in 19* weather with no block heater. Mine had some really bad corrosion on them and I just cleaned them up and she cranks every morning. You may need to charge/jump them after you clean them off since you've been putting a good load on them.
Glad to hear you got it done. I think when "jumping" the posts you need to have somebody "at the key" for when you remove the jumper screw-driver, they can turn the key fast.
Again, glad to hear it's fireing up in the cold again.
Also, a few winters ago I experienced the "romp romps" with everything in working order. I switched to the Rotella 5-40 syn and it has all been good since. Indiana winters, and North Dakota pheasant hunts "rooster!" Oop, sorry, got excited.
