Replacement for OEM speakers
First off, the included instructions were right on. There were no surprises. Total time was about 3/4 hr.
Gotta admit how impressed I was with the build quality that was put into the OEM speaker installation. The grills were adhered to the OEM speakers and they inturn were adhered to the door and held in place via 4 torx screws. No way these speakers were to shake loose.
The new Sony speakers fit perfectly. I remounted the OEM grill over the new speakers for additional protection and the 4 torx screws lined right up through the grill, speaker and door mounting holes, just like the OEM(s).
The two included wireing harness adapters made the wireing a piece of cake. No spliceing nor soldering needed. Plug & play I rekon.
Needless to say, installation in the front doors was a piece of cake

So how about the sound?
Well, they sounded REAL good
For the 1st time in a yr or so I was able to crank the bass up to max and not hear the speakers rattleing and distorting. I like bass, not that thumping mind numbing bass of you younguns mind you, I just like a little bottom with my jams and I now have it back again.
Since both of the OEM speakers had torn cones (which was causing the rattleing & distortion btw) it is very hard to definitely say that these 4way speakers sounded that much better than the OEM's did brand new but even w/the OEM premium head unit these new speakers sound very, very nice.
As been said, and definitely on my 98, the rear speakers carry more bass whilst the fronts carry more mid to high freq. This is easily verified by useing the fade control. Those mid, high & higher tweeters of the 4-way should be in their element up front.
Surprisingly the rears sounded fine with no discernable rattle or distortion so they'll remain in service for now. As also been said, the rear drivers side speaker will be a beast to get to.......
So for now my sound project is done. I'm either back to the original sound or perhaps even better.
I considered the sound system pretty good when I 1st bought the F150 and probably wouldn't have changed these speakers out had I not had to. It was fine for me.
So would changing out perfectly good OEM speakers w/these improve the sound that comes out of an OEM head unit?
Well it's hard to say.

One would think that speakers that spec out better would sound better, plus going from a 2-way to a 4-way should also sound better too but since I liked the sound of the OEM's I'm probably not the one to answer that.
For $59.99 a pair plus shipping I guess thats a gamble one would have to take

And I would venture to say that one would probably have to change out all 4 inorder to get the full benefit.
They do sound VERY good though
Pretty good for under $100 total. I would still like a little more bass, a small sub, just to fill in the missing sound.
I made this mistake with my other truck, I got one of the most expensive speakers available. It sounded worse than the factory stuff. Put an amp on them later and they sounded excellent.
