A couple of questions for you though.

How are you powering the compressor? With an inverter? Or do you vacuum down the tank at home and then go make your collections?

How much vacuum do you have to create in the tank to be able to suck up 30 gallons, and how long does it take to get that much of a vacuum?

Last question is for you and anyone else who may have tried this. Why not use a 55 gallon drum to do the same thing? They're pretty heavy-duty, would they handle the necessary level of vacuum? Or would they just collapse? I'd think having nearly double the capacity of hotwheelbill's 30 gallon tank would be a big advantage - assuming the drum can handle it.
I do vacume down at home. 27" of vacume is 27" of vacume. It does not matter how large the tank is, 30 gal. will fill 30 gal. and 80 gal. will fill 80 gal. with 27" of vacume. You just have to watch out to not let air in as you suck the oil out. 55 gal. drum will not work, too thin. You need atleast a water well blader tank or even an old water heater tank. Mine is over kill....but FREE! Everyone has a reason for the tank, mine will fit in the trunk of my 300D MB with room for more stuff. Full, is all the cars rear suspension can handle. I collect the large amounts from festivals and such, with my truck ,trailer and 55 gal. drums. They just dump it in as soon as I tell them what I am doing!!

Edit: Spend the money on the brass ball valves, Harbor Freight has some good prices. With that much vacume on the PVC valves, I was unable to open the valves slow and everything rushes in at once......water!!!!!!!!

20" of vacuum on a 55 gallon drum will crush it like a tin can in your hand.
27" of vacuum would flatten it out like a semi truck running over it.

I've been meaning to do a video on this.

I made 3 out of old water softener tanks. Pic of one is here
http://www.leskwvo.com/home/pictures.html. Top left. This is the smaller one. Holds about 2 cubes. The other two are taller and hold just over three cubes.

I have not had to use them in some time. I get more then enough oil now that my brother-in-law has three restaurants. He brings it to me in cubes.

I'd give these three tanks to anyone that wants to stop by and pick them up. I'm in south Jersey, just outside Philly.
