Man $6800 sounds bad Rob.........just ask yourself......is your life worth a measly $6800? Just thought I'd put that in perspective since you're uninjured from the accident (even though it still sucks about the truck). It could have been worse!!!!
I just came across this thread sorry to hear about the Ranger. What time was your wreck? I cross that bridge every day just before 8:00 and I dont remember seeing it.
I was lazy that morning and hit the snooze button.... It happened at about 8:10am.
Ok, things are getting real interesting now. Got the revised estimate that says they are now at $8100. But, the shop called late today to tell me they can't fix the frame, it has to be replaced. He told me on the phone it was $4000 for the frame and $2600 for the labor. According to my math, that is well over $14000 in damages.
I am really frustrated now.... the book says it's worth $19000 on a trade in, but nobody would come close to that with that kind of repair bill on the record. State Farm won't tell me what their "total loss" value is. The bodyshop had said when it was at $6000, that was 33% of the "total" number.
I can't even think straight at this point.... I didn't realize a body shop had the skill level to completely swap out a frame.
Wow Rob, it just keeps getting worse. You'll come out OK in the end. A deal like this sure makes something like my '69 or your '74 look good!!!! (Well except for gas money....)
Just take the insureance money plus the value off the truck an get a different vehicle. That truck will never be the same again no matter what they do to it. The should just total it out.

Yep, I agree. It sucks Rob, but it's probably the best way to go.

That's what I want, but I am at the mercy of the insurance company. As long as they say the truck is fixable, I have no choice. I told the claims rep I would rather have the truck totaled. I am praying they find another big-ticket item that needs replaced to put the repair bill over their limit.
It's at C & J in South Sioux City, NE. The only reason it's there is that they were on State Farm's "preferred" list. They seem to be a pretty small operation, but the claims rep insisted that State Farm has high standards for their preferred shops. Whatever. I am still the one stuck with a truck that's had a major rebuild. Since I don't have a say in the matter, I guess I just hope for the best.
On the good news side of things.... My revised estimate came in the mail yesterday. It's only $12,200. I must have forgotten to take out the frame repair cost when I added everything up.
They are still fixing it... last I heard they were still waiting for the new frame to arrive. I'm really po'd at the insurance company. My rental car coverage runs out tomorrow and they won't extend it, even though they admit it's their fault it took 10+ days just to get the damage estimate finalized.
I am still hoping that they'll find another show-stopper once they rip into it.
Yeh isnt that funny they want there insurance premiums ontime but you have all the time in the world. Id be lookin at different insurance company if I were you. Id put up a stink about the rental car deal. If they wont extend it tell them your cancelling your coverage an wont have nothing to do with them. A good insurance agent should go to bat for you here. Good Luck live an learn the hard way.
I can't believe that the truck just didn't get "totaled". The thing I would want to know is.....after the truck is fixed, will State Farm consider the truck "good as new". Will they continue covering the truck if something else would happen in the future and would need repair? (hopefully, no more accidents). It would really suck if that would happen and your insurance company came back and said "since the truck was wrecked before so extensively, we won't cover this one". Hope everything works out for ya.
