Hey all,
Today I'm changing the pads. I started on the drivers side. Everything was going well until it came time to grease up the guide pins. I noticed they don't slide. I pulled the boots off and found that the pins are corroded into the caliper anchor plate and will not budge. This sucks because I can't even put the caliper back on with the new pads because the guide pins need to be in about a 1/4" or so.
Does this mean I need new anchor plates?

If you can't pull the pins with heat or grunt, it's going to be time to get new caliper assemblies. Now would be a good time to upgrade from the early 99 to the current style. If your pins aren't moving, your brakes are not working.
I'm pretty sure the new ones are a direct bolt on.
mine were rusted so bad i had to heat the calipers up with a torch and bust the pins loose. it saved me the cost of a caliper. with some time on the wire wheel and a lot of anti-sieze and my brakes work great
Thanks for the quick reply Guzzle and Mucktown. So If I upgrade to the later style, do I only need the Calipers and Anchor Plates? And are the rears the same or did they change those in later models?

From what I can remember reading from previous posts, all you should need is the new calipers (complete unit). I have not updated an early 99 so you should wait until someone chimes in that had actually done the procedure that can coroborate the parts. I believe the rear calipers have also changed from the early 99s BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD ON IT.
Powerstroke.com has the front calipers for $84 each (plus $60 core) that are listed for the 99 and up. Not sure about the rears as they are listed as 2000 and up model years.
i have an early 99..build date 3/98....just did all rotors and breaks front and rear...early 99 has 3 difernt rotors for the front..mine was the last one i tryed...one was over all bigger around..the second was just a touch too tall on the hub so when i tighten the lugs the wheel would bind..the 3rd is the one i wanted....they all took the same calipers and pads..i got my caliper at napa for 83.98..part # 242-4203...the rear caliper on my truck are the same both sides..one is mounted on the back of the rotor and the other side is mounted on the front side of rotor..so the calipers are the same right and left side...all calipers came with all new pins, clips and copper washers..when all done everything on my brakes are brand new...IMO chances are if your pins are that froze..the seals in the pistons are not much better..id get a new caliper
