I was in my parking lot getting my panel ready for winter storage (I know but I've been really busy at work) and a guy in a station pulled in and asked if I would like to buy another panel truck. Who wouldn't? Anyway, he said his friend had one in his barn and wanted to get rid of it. He gave me the owner's phone number.
Today I called the guy and this is what he has; a '53 Ford panel that has been sitting in his barn for 25 years. He has lost interested in it and his son don't want it (That's a whole other question) He and his friend started working on after high school and lost interest but before he did they rebuilt the chassis and painted it, new sheet metal was welded into the quarters and the body work was done and the body primered. He has a rebuilt C***y 454 with dual carbs backed by a Turbo 400 tranny. The panel is in parts. What do you think it's worth, the guy told me today he wants $2000. I am meeting him tomorrow morning to take a look at it and see what he actually has. I have been into the Bonus Built years, '48-52, but I feel the later years may be more popular and valuable, what do you think? Since it's in parts I thought I might buy it to part out.

It sure sounds like it would be worth taking a look at, especially if you have the room for it. You could almost get your money back just by selling the 454 and TH400.
If it's been sitting for 25yrs and he's just now thinking about getting rid of it. I would start my offer a heck of a lot lower than $2000.
If he's basing the value on the Chevy parts, tell him to keep that part.
Well you can see if you get it for such a good price, and since to some of you those foreign motors aren't worth anything, you can maybe give it away to some sucker who thinks that free-bee is such a bargin......ya, poor sucker.....
Bob, if its had quality body work done to it and the chassis is rebuilt, I'd NEVER part it. Hell, you're half way there! Some decent motor/tranny mounts and interior work and suddenly thats a 10-14K panel! (I know it could go much higher, but it depends on ALOT!) Keep me in the back of your mind on the 454 and turbo 400. I know a guy......
Where are you @ in Wisconsin? Im right on the northern border of WI. BUT ON THE GOOD SIDE!
I'm just north of Milwaukee in the SE part of the state. I check your Public Profile, you said you were on the "Good Side", you must have made a mistake when entering your data, it says you're in MN!

MN? Should be MI. Could I have made a mistake? I'll have to ask my wife. She's in charge of telling me when/if I'm right or wrong.
ANYHOO Bob..... I'm in a little town named Kingsford. Im probably about 180 miles north of you. I gotta go look at my profile.
WOW! the rear doors alone are worth 1-2K depending on condition. A 454 with 2x4s? A rare and sought after engine by muscle car restorers, add another 4K, a good rear bumper, 500.00. The list goes on...
Where did you say this is? You wouldn't happen to have the owners name and phone # handy...? I'd like to go check it out for you, yah, check it out for you... that's the ticket!

Ax
Could you be confusing what some people will pay vs what it's worth?
On-Line Auctions are driving the prices waaaay too high.
I'm with Ax, wish I were going to look at it. Certainly would be an interesting look-see. $2000 might be a bargain. Not like it would be worth a great deal less. Joe
