NumberDummy, I'm just a plain ol' dummy. I've only had the truck for about a week, and it was too cold (i.e. I was too lazy) so tried to describe by memory.

Went out to look at it after your post, and sure enough there it was, the gas tank, right behind the seat, where I swear I never saw it before.

So I guess this brings us back to the prevailing theory that technically the seat wasn't intended to fold down, but many folks over the years have loosened the bolts just enough so it can fold.

Of course, now that I realize the gas tank is there, I'm not so eager to start storing stuff back there anyway

on my 70 the seat folds forward....there's a lil clip kinda thing right next to where the seat belt is...push that up and it hsud fold forward...but maybe a 72 is different?
